BOYS

SO#1 Kingwood TX
SO#2 The Woodlands TX
SO#3 Southlake Carroll TX
SO#6 Strake Jesuit TX
SO#8 Cinco Ranch TX
SO#9 A&M Consolidated TX

The Texas A&M Invite was a great early-season match-up with the top 3 South teams and 6 of the top 10. #1 Kingwood TX was tightly packed while winning 2 prior meets. #2 The Woodlands TX had also beaten ranked teams in its 2 victoties. #3 Southlake Carroll TX, the pre-season #1, finally had a full squad as last year’s 3rd & 6th man returned from injuries.

Southlake Carroll jr Colby Lowe (Foot Locker finalist) pressed the early pace and was never headed, finishing in 15:50, 14 seconds in front of A&M Consolidated sr Duncan Phillips (fellow Foot Locker finalist) in 16:04. The Woodlands sr Alex Neff (state track 3200 4th) was the nearest pursuer, taking the bronze in 16:06 followed by Southlake Carroll soph CJ Brown in 16:14.

Southlake Carroll edged The Woodlands 95-96 for the team title. Sr Richard Grue in 21st and sr Chris Moore in 29th had successful season openers, to go along with Lowe and Brown, as Carroll averaged 16:47. The Woodlands sr Bryan Downey ran well in 11th, in addition to Neff’s 3rd. The Woodlands soph Reed Connor clocked 17:22 to win the non-Elite race, an effort that would have improved its Elite score. A&M Consolidated, led by Phillips’s silver, was 3rd with 114, looking better than its previous 2 meets. They also had a non-scoring entry in 41st which would have helped its cause. SO#1 Kingwood took 4th with 140 as its 52 second spread was a bit larger than expected. Vista Ridge TX closed out the top 5 with 148 points and a 17:09 average. SO#6 Strake Jesuit TX finished 8th with SO#8 Cinco Ranch TX in 9th.
