Chalonda Goodman GA gets double US#1s and meet records
11.30 +0.08 100m and 23.32 +0.4 200m - the 100 is fastest junior (under 20) time in the world this year.


On a sunny, but blustery spring day, Taco Bell athletes gave outstanding performances from morning until late at night, when West Charlotte NC boys and J.L. Mann SC girls whooped and hollered to celebrate winning the team trophies. 

Chalonda Goodman finishes 100

MVP Awards
 Girls Track - Chalonda Goodman GA 100/200 double
Chalonda surpassed her MVP performance at Mobile last week.  She is building a memorable senior year before heading for college at Texas in the fall.

 Boys Track - Andre Carter GA - 200/400 double
Andre edged Brandon Sanders by 0.02 second in the 200;  he had an easier time earlier in the 400.


 Girls Field - Brittany Porter GA - LJ/TJ double
Brittany broke the meet long jump record by sailing 20-3 on each of her first three tries and then passed the four remaining rounds.

Brittany's "make history" goal is to break the Georgia state LJ record. 
 Boys Field - Wesley Lavong PA - SP/DT double
Wesley and brother Carlton (2nd, LJ) drove down from Pennsylvania

  • G-400: Briana Nelson SC 53.71 US#2, (right) taking down the meet record (54.08) set in 1994 by future Olympian Monique Hennagan of the host high school, Spring Valley.
  • B-100: Hunter Furr NC 10.75 +1.1 - Last year's Nike Outdoor Nationals champion edges Antonial Marshall NC 10.77.
  • B-110H pre: Marcus Maxey GA 14.07 +0.4 , edging NSIC champion Justin Crawford NC (14.23).
  • G-100H: Jasmin Stowers SC 13.72 is fastest in US this season but wind-aided (+3.2). 
  • B-Mile: Mark Blackmon SC 4:21.12 - freshman from famous running family was South Carolina 4A cross country champ last fall. 
  • G-4x100: Elizabeth Seton MD 47.03 wins from "slow" section.

In its 18th year, the Taco Bell Classic continues to grow in stature.  Meet records and prior year results are sprinkled with the names of all time greats in US prep track and field.  This year's meet features a bevy of national stars among a record 2,400 entries from 11 states:
  • Chalonda Goodman - Newnan GA sr - Girls MVP at Mobile last week with a 100/200 double into a headwind: 11.64 -1.4 and 23.69 -0.2, the national leader in both events.  She ran 11.31 and 23.29 outdoors last year.
  • Jasmin Stowers - Pendleton SC jr - US#1 indoors at 60H with her 8.30 win at Nike Indoor Nationals.  She ran 13.52 100H last year, 8th best in the US. 
  • Brianna Nelson - J.L. Mann SC jr - US#1 indoors at 400 meters with her 54.15 win at Nike Indoor Nationals.  She had 2008 outdoor bests of 11.93, 24.13 and 53.4.  
  • Tavaris Tate - Starkville MS sr -Boys MVP at Mobile last week with a 200/400 double in 20.89 +1.6 (US#1 this season) and 46.74 (US#2).  Indoors this year, he was US#1 in the 400 (47.06) and won the NIN 400 in 47.84. 
  • Brittany Porter - Towers GA sr -US#1 long jumper this year both indoors (20-7.25 NIN champion) and outdoors (21-3.50). 
  • Saniel Atkinson - Bishop McNamara MD sr - NSIC pentathlon champion and 5-9.25 HJ US#4 indoors.
  • Justin Crawford - Ashbrook NC sr - NSIC 60H champion (7.84 US#3), US#2 7.23 55H indoors, and 13.81 110H US#3 outdoors last year.
  • Carlton Lavong - Methacton PA jr - 24-2.75 LJ US#5 indoors.
  • Wesley Lavong - Methacton PA sr - 62-2 SP US#9 indoors.
