The New York team defeated Thomas Jefferson VA 88-105 and registered a 13:14.3 average, one of the slower winning teams of the day. Liverpool, a bubble team from New York, finished third with 157 thanks to having its first three runners break into the top 20, but it lacked the depth of the first two teams. Queensbury was led by Matt Flint who finished fourth in 12:47.2. The rest of its top five finished between 13:15.2 and 13:30.2, which was good enough of a pack to hold off the Virginians. Dan Lowry of LaSalle College PA won the race in 12:36.1. He turned it into a strategic affair, not taking the lead until the last mile when he ran away from Flint and Brendan Devine of Monticello NY (second in 12:43.9) on the long winding downhill. Lowry said he had run at Van Cortlandt several times before, but today he set a personal best by a huge margin. He stated his top goals for the rest of the season as winning the Philadelphia Catholic League title and then qualifying for Footlocker finals.
