THIS WEEK IN NEW YORK

#1. Queensbury
The Spartans continued their torrid racing at the Grout Run in Schenectady. The Q Men placed 1 – 2 – 3 – 5 – 6 – 7 and 10 to just miss a perfect score winning 17 to 51 over a very solid Suffern team. Queensbury had a five man compression of 43 seconds over the 2.7 mile road course held in Central Park in Schenectady. Queensbury will be a very interesting race for NY cross-country fans to watch at the Manhattan College Meet (MCXI) as FM, Liverpool, Baldwinsville and Clarence will all go head to head to head to head (well you get the idea)… toss in La Salle from PA and let’s get ready to rock & roll at the “Biggest and the Best."

# 2. Shenendehowa
The Men from Shen ran Grout – well their JV did and acquitted themselves quite well. The top dawgs from the Shen Plainsmen trained in preparation for the mammoth Manhattan College Meet at legendary Van Cortlandt Park on Saturday, October 13 (always the second Saturday in October)! Shenendehowa will go hard in the “G” Race and will line-up right next to CBA, NJ on Saturday at MCXI.

#3. Shaker
NEWS BULLETIN: Shaker loses! Wait this may be true but the Bisons out of Section 2 were missing their spiritual leader R.J. Sniffen who also happens to be very good harrier as well (one of the best in NY). Take nothing away from Washingtonville they ran quite well in taking a three point win over Shaker. Shaker will next appear on the starting line on Broadway in the “A” Race at MCXI they will go head to head with NYS NTN #8 Smithtown throw in El Modena from California for good measure and it will surely be lovely race.

#4. Kellenberg Memorial

Coach Kevin Buckley, the Elnicks plus Billy Posch and Firebirds will take their show on the road next week as they will travel to “Sweet Home Alabama” to run the Great American Cross-Country Festival. GA is simply a marvelous race which has some of the best race organization and hospitality in the Nation. The course is well constructed and well marked and is a very fair test for each and every athlete. One little bit of advice to the #1 Catholic team in NYS -- start hydrating now!!!

# 5. Warwick Valley

Took the weekend off to get ready for their next production in NYC on Broadway. Yes, the Great White Way aka VCP and Manhattan College!!!

We're off to see the Wizard, the wonderful Wizard of Oz
You'll find he is a whizz of a Wiz, if ever a Wiz there was!
If ever, oh ever, a Wiz there was, the Wizard of Oz is one because
Because, because, because, because, because
Because of the wonderful things he does
We're off to see the Wizard, the wonderful Wizard of Oz

Once upon a time in the land of WV Bashful, Doc, Dopey, Grumpy, Happy, Sleepy and Sneezy are now looking to move into the Land of Oz (Oz is now located in da Bronx at a little Park called Van Cortlandt). The Wizard is being played by Mr. E.J.J. Bowes (meet director and quite old).

Watch out for the Warwick 7 to make a huge impact this coming Saturday.

Siskel & Ebert to do the review.

# 6. Arlington

#8. Smithtown

Smithtown over Arlington! The Admirals and the Smitty’s go at it with the Section 11 team taking the Section1 team by a score of 34 to 39. This was a very close meet between two of NYS best XC teams at the St. Anthony’s Invitational at Sunken Meadow State Park out on Long Island. A quick analysis shows that Smithtown had a five man compression of 43 seconds and Arlington had a compression of 1 minute 6 seconds OUCH, that hurts!!! Smithtown meets Shaker in the “A” Race at MCXI -- that will start the meet off with a BANG!

#7. Ithaca

Coach Rich Bernstein reports from the Central NY Regional that the men from Ithaca are prepping themselves for the “D” Race at Manhattan College. Ithaca HS know as Little Red v. the Big Red of Cornell University is located in Tomkins County. The school was founded in 1875 and currently has an enrollment of 1675. The team colors are red and gold look for the Big “I” on their uni’s come Saturday!

# 9. Cornwall

Cornwall wins the Brewster Invite by a wide margin over a good Pawling team which was paced by Colby Del Bene. Colin Anderson ran 16:22 for a second place finish to lead his team to victory Look for the green clad Cornwallians to be in the “F” Race at MC with cross-county rival Warwick Valley. It’ll be some fun stuff for sure.
