Fence map

Manhattan College XC Invite tent location map

July 8th - After posting the original photos on July 6th a series of e-mails and phone calls were received from people involved in the construction project.  Below is what they reported, a call to the parks department to confirm has gone unreturned at this time.

The north end of the park (already fenced in) will be seeded and the fence will remain till the grass is ready (probably till next summer).  On September 1 part of the south end will be fenced in as well.  The new fence will connect with the old, run along Broadway (but leaving the running path clear), loop behind the HS .25 start and run down to about the tennis courts (half way down the field).  There will be room left, about 15’, between the fence and the black top path.  The fence will then make a left turn head north and connect  up with the already standing fencing.

The HS 2,5 start will be shifted down to in front of the tennis courts, this will cut off about 100 meters on the run into the cow path.

The Manhattan meet and CHSAA Championship meets will finish this year at/near the Broadway finish.

Times should be the same – the course yes has been altered but there is no real major difference in the courses.

As for any 5k,8k,10k courses or the hs 1.5 freshman course – these will need to be some type of loop on the available parade ground/flats before heading into the woods.

According to Van Cortlandt Park Administrator Margot Perron, "the plan for the fencing is the northern fencing will stay up through next summer to allow grass seeding to take root.  In fall 2010, the northern fencing will come down, and the southern fencing will stay up.  In theory, the project will be complete and no fencing will be up for the 2011 season, but subject to change."

The newly planted trees that would be in the path of the runners heading into the 2.5 mile course, the parks department has agreed to move to another place in the park.

The map below is where the approximate fence lines are and will be from the info that was provided - this is NOT an offical map of the park or the planned fencing.  It is here just to give all of you an idea of where you might see fencing when you arrive at VCP in the fall.
