Girls Class A Preview

Class A will have its own superstar in the works with Chicago Gregory's Regina George.  George, now a senior, has been on the scene for the past four years.  She is considered by some as the small class version of Waubonsie Valley's Shakeia Pinnick.  George will headline what is to be a great evening of track and field action at the Shirk Center.

Sprints-
Anisha Johnson of Thornwood (Seton Academy) appears to be the big favorite in the 55m.  Elizabeth Wiggington (Olympia) and Lacey Hainline (Sherrard) will challenge.  Regina George (Chicago St. Gregory) will be hard to beat in the 200m and 400m.  Although Leeann Michl (Newton) has the top mark in the 400m, she will have her hands full with George.
Molly Ellis of Rockford Christian will add some depth in the 400m as she has run under the magical 1:00 barrier.

Distance-
Regina George goes for the track trifecta in the 800m and she should have an easy time of it now that Stephanie Brown (Tri-Valley) has shut down her indoor season.  The 1600m will be very competitive with a number of girls under 5:40.  Jamie Holmes (Tremont) has a slight margin over Stephanie Simson (Chicago Luther North).

Field Events-

Abby Popejoy (Prairie Central) lead the long jump field with a solid 17-4 mark.  Kendall Rush (Hall) is at the top of the class in the triple jump at 36-10.5.  Sophomore Kelsey Card of Carlinville is defending champion and a heavy favorite in the shot put with an outstanding mark of 43-0.  The super talent Regina George ends it all in the high jump with an all class state best of 5-6.  Tonya Tuttle (Harrisburg) has the top mark in the pole vault at 9-6.

Relays-
Carthage and Seton Academy will battle it for the best in the 4x200m with 1:50.6 marks.  Carthage has a class best of 4:15 in the 4x400m and appear as favorites.  Lexington is the state’s top 4x800 team at 10:18.5 but Porta and Annawan will chase hard.
