Mt. SAC release
In addition to once again showcasing many of the top high school
athletes in
America, there will be three exciting changes highlighting the high
school
portion of the Mt. SAC Track & Field Invitational this year,
which will be held
on the weekend on April 19 and 20.
Rather than having the always exciting invitational high school
events spread
out over the course of the entire day on Saturday, April 20, this
year all of
the seeded invitational events will be concentrated in an exciting
3 1/2 hour
block right in the middle of the day beginning at 11:30 AM.
Not only will the concentration of these invitational events create
a great deal
of excitement as track fans will see one great performance after
another but
also the new Grand Team Sweepstakes championship competition will
be easy to
follow culminating with a showdown in the traditional 4 x 400 relays.
This Grand Team Sweepstakes championship, new to the invitational
this year,
will crown one school as the 'Best Team In The West' and its coach
as the Mt.
SAC Invitational Coach of the Year.
The Sweepstakes title will be based on the scoring of the first
six places in
all of the individual invitational events and the first seven places
in each
relay--where the team points will be counted double to further highlight
those
relay events.
Teams that want to challenge for this coveted title, which carries
with it not
only an impressive plaque for the school to take home but also will
earn the
winning team a permanent plaque to be affixed to a wall of the stadium,
will
have to display great upfront talent as well as depth as there will
be scoring
from 21 events including seven great relays: 4 x 100, 4 x 200, 4
x 400, 4 x 800,
4 x mile, Sprint Medley and Distance Medley.
In addition to the Grand Sweepstakes Championship, three other
Sweepstakes
Champions will be crowned among the 400 plus high schools that will
be
competing. Those titles will be Sprint Sweepstakes Champion, Distance
Sweepstakes Champion and Field Event Sweepstakes Champion.
Each Sweepstakes championship in these three areas will be determined
by scoring
the individual and relay events from only that specific area, and
the winning
school will receive a plaque and the coach will be named Coach of
the Year in
that specific area.
The third major, exciting change this year is the inclusion of
one of the
traditionally strong events in the Mt. SAC Invitational--the boys
and girls high
school 4 x mile relay--into the elite Friday night distance carnival.
This year's top high school distance runners will battle each other
right in the
middle of the incredible schedule of the elite distance races featuring
the
nation and worlds top distance runners.
