Girls

Running back to her form at 2001 Arcadia, when she beat the nation's best as a sophomore, Megan Kaltenbach dominated one of the fastest 3200 meter races ever, with her 10:03.35 time far and away the best this year and making her the fifth fastest US prep ever. The only runner close was Bingham UT sr Laura Zeigle. Zeigle went out fast as if to duplicate her recent successes (national 5k record and US#1 at both 1500 meters and 2 miles), but Kaltenbach stayed within range and reeled Zeigle in after four laps in 5:01.2. The two ran together until the bell, when Kaltenbach pulled away convincingly with a 70.4 second final turn. Despite the lopsided margin, Laura Zeigle and the next several runners also enjoyed personal record times.

Sayville NY jr Brian Dalpiaz took over from early leader Jesse Fayant on lap 4 and reeled off a 2:11.7 third 800 meters to take command of the race. But Klamath Union OR sr Jacob Gomez, who will run for Stanford next year, gobbled up everyone with a 59.2 last lap. Gomez caught Dalpiaz on the far turn and won going away, with California state champion Kyle Alcorn also passing Dalpiaz in the stretch.

Fayant led for three laps before dropping back.
Dalpiaz led the next 4 laps and looked a certain winner at the bell.
