South Lakes beats Atlantic
behind Alan Webb's 1:47.3 anchor

South Lakes VA spotted Atlantic FL 5 seconds on the first two legs and then roared back for the win. South Lakes' third leg, jr Richard Smith, made up more than half the gap on Ken Schappert of Atlantic. Then megastar Alan Webb reeled in Atlantic anchor John Jefferson with a 51 second first lap (above) and pulled away for a 2-second final margin in 7:35.33, fastest time of the year in the US and #5 on Jack Shepard's all-time list. Atlantic's 7:37.31 places #11 on the all time list.

Leg 1

Both Atlantic and South Lakes lagged in the first leg. After one lap in 57 seconds, Timon Keller of Edwardsville IL (466) led. (left). After a 1:55 opening leg, Christian Brothers Academy NJ leads (below), with Jeff Peterson 314 handing off to Thomas Falvey 312

 

Leg 2

Sean Jefferson moved up from 4th on a 52-second lap and took the lead (below), with Rich Anderson of Cardinal O'Hara PA alongside, and then handed off a good lead (right) to Ken Schappert. South Lakes is fifth at this point.

Leg 3

In the middle of 3rd leg, Schappert still has big lead
after 54 second lap, but Richard Smith is moving up.


By the third exchange, Richard Smith of South Lakes
has narrowed the gap to put the issue in the hands
of anchors John Jefferson of Atlantic and Alan Webb
of South Lakes as Ken Schappert hands off to Jefferson.
