CIF SS DIVISIONAL
LIVE MEET SUMS

Cerritos College - Saturday, May 19th, 2007

Division I - Boys -D1 Boys 100 -
Isaiah Green (LB Poly) came to run, with a great race out of lane 2. 10.61 Prelims star from last week, Charles Saesun of Rancho Cucamonga had a poor start, and closed down for second. Green's winning time was a fine 10.48w with the wind +2.3 making it wind-aided. Saesun, a soph, was 10.57w.

-D1 Boys 200 -
Whoa! Bryshon Nellum was not special right out of the blocks, but 40 meters into the turn he was building! He came by the 100m start line in 10.5 and was flying, without a bit of slowing the final 100. His time, an amazing 20.58 (wind +1.0) the #4 California time ever and Southern Section best ever! Quincy Watts 20.50 (Olympic Gold Medalist), Brian Bridgewater 20.53 (NCAA Divisional champ), Calvin Harrison 20.57 (Olympic Gold Medalist Relay), and Nellum, some good company!!!

-D1 Boys 400 -
Bryshon Nellum (LB Poly) came to run! He was out at 11.6 with a definite lead at 100 meters. Through the 200 at 22.6 (into a breeze) he was far away from the pack, with a 34.5 at 300 meters. Racing alone, he was right at 12.0 for the final 100 meters for a super 46.55 win, with teammate Joey Hughes next at 48.39.

-D1 Boys 800 -
Erick Arteaga (Alhambra) leader through the 400 at 55, with Ryan Gamboa (Upland) and Steve Norton (La Sierra) up to the lead by the 600 at 1:24. Gamboa, who was hurt part of the spring, worked the final 200 to win at 1:52.55 over Norton's 1:53.10.

D1 Boys 1600 -
Dylan Knight (La Sierra) 31.1 opening 200 200 with the pack very close. The pace slowed to 64.4 at the 400, with Royal's Hudson Andrews and Jun Richel next. Spencer Knight had moved up to the front end by the 600 at 1:37.0. At 2:09.6 the pack was all close, with things starting to accelerate. It was single file through 1000 meters at 2:41.2, with Spencer Knight and Andrews from Royal pulling away. At 3:12.2 the front duo had pulled away by 20 meters, with they the only ones showing real snap through the 1400 at 3:43.5. Andrews easily raced by down the homestretch with a final 200 very near 27.0 on the way to a time right at 4:11. Andrews 4:11.02 - Dylan Knight 4:11.60 - Spencer Knight 4:14.51.

-D1 Boys 3200 -
Division I and III would run together. JT Sullivan and Scott Blair of Trabuco Hills led up front, sharing things through a 4:36.4 1600 (after a 2:22.4 800). Surprisingly that edged them way ahead of the pack, with Spencer Knight, and defending State Champ Michael Cybulski (Royal, Simi) (obviously short on conditioning after a long injury), fourth at five and a half laps. Sullivan edged ahead of his teammate as they approached six laps (6:58.3 there). Sullivan rolled away to a good lead during lap seven, with Spencer Knight into second ahead of Blair. Sullivan and Knight moved right at the bell, with JT's effort seeming to first mellow Spencer's spirits, but the La Sierra flash put up a head of steam with 200 to go and raced in to just miss catching JT at the finish. Sullivan was 27.7 for the final 200, with Knight having to be in the 26 second range!! JT was 9:11.53 for the win with Spencer Knight 9:11.78 and Blair 9:15.66 in third.

-D1 Boys HH -
Super contest. Frosh Devalee Pedrogo (Mission Viejo) appeared to have the best start, with Trevor Habberstad moving in the middle. Once waited for Zion Babb (Alhambra (14.00 last week) to close down, which he did, but Habberstat shockingly won 13.93-13.98, with the multi-event Canyon star headed for Washington State now the #11 prep hurdler in the nation!!

-D1 Boys 300H -
Good race, with Cameron Stepney (San Gorgonio) out quick, with Trevor Habberstad (Canyon) challenging at 24.1 for the 200. After a great stretch run, Trevor staggered over the final hurdle, but was able to come in ahead, racing 37.74 to Stepney's 38.05, the Canyon star completing a super hurdle meet!!

D1 Boys 400 Re -
Rancho Cucamonga led into the first exchange, with Bryshon Nellum (LB Poly) rocketing the backstretch to give his team a lead over Aliso Niguel at the start around the second turn. Good exchanges had the Jackrabbits rocket in 40.71, with Aliso Niguel next at 42.07. #4 time in the nation this year.

-D1 Boys 1600 Re -
Rancho Cucamonga was out well, with Poly in lane 1 a ways back early on the 3 turn stagger. Poly led off at 48.4, with RC 48.9. RC edged by on leg 2, with Poly racing ahead near the end of that section (48.7 for both). Same script leg three with Rancho edging close, with this time they were close at the start of the anchor, with Poly 48.3 and RC 47.9. Bryshon Nellum kept Rancho on the outside through 200, with the RC anchor actually passing Bryshon Nellum shortly after before the Jackrabbit anchor put the pedal down and raced 47.0 for a 3:12.40 winner. 48.6 for the RC anchor in their fine 3:13.99.

-D1 Boys HJ -
Lightly traveled during the regular season, Darryl Drake (San Gorgonio) was 6-07 last week in qualifying, and 6-08 here for a win over Upland's Taylor Hobson at the same height. Drake did struggle a bit, with three efforts needed at 6-06, with a second effort clearance at 6-08 for the win. Four others cleared 6-06.

D1 Boys PV -
Chip Reiter of Chino Hills listed the winner at 14-04, with Tyler Woodard (Canyon, CC) next at 14-03 and Rith South (Wilson, Long Beach) also 14-03. Interesting three no heights, with the team points for 7th and 8th going unclaimed.

-D1 Boys LJ -
Taveon Burke (Lancaster) won a close contest at 22-11.75 (0), moving from fourth to first on his final jump, over area rival Terrance Sheppard (Palmdale) 22-11 (+1.8). Kevin Kuechler (Mission Viejo) was also within an inch of the winner at 22-10.75 (+1.1),with Upland's fine all-arounder Taylor Hobson was next at 22-07.5 (+0.1).

-D1 Boys TJ -
Emmanuel Neizer (Rancho Cucamonga) dominated. His 47-09.75 +2.0) opener could have won, with improvement to 48-06.25 (+.3) on his second effort. Ryan Swafford (Vista Murrieta) was next at 47-01 (+1.6).

-D1 Boys SP -
Joel Heaton (Aliso Niguel) was over out over 60 feet last week in the Prelims at 60-02.25, and he continued to improve, here to 60-04 for the win, building through 55-11.5, 56-10.25, 58-01, and the winning toss! Lei Talamaivao (Rancho Cucamonga) was next at 56-02.5.

-D1 Boys DT -
Raul Gonzalez (Alta Loma) a 173-09 second throw to win over Karl Gehrke (Serrano, Phelan), who was 173-05 on his thrird toss. They were the only in the field over 160 feet.

Division I - Girls

-Girls D1 100 -
Rancho Verde's red clad duo in lanes 4 and 6, Jessika Hornsby and Alicia King broke well, with Wilson (Long Beach) star Shelise Williams closing in between them for an 11.73 (+1.1) win over Hornsby 11.77 and King's 11.82. Highland (Palmdale) frosh was a fine fourth at 11.92.

-Girls D1 200 -
Good group here, with Shelise Williams (Wilson, Long Beach) 12.0 the leader off the turn. Surprising frosh Jessica Davis (Highland, Palmdale) came close from her lane eight spot, but Shelise was the winner 24.03-24.06. Shelise has shown to be one very tough competitor, with Davis one of the bright young stars of the future in the state off her efforts here. Rancho Verde went 3-5-7 here with Jessika Hornsby leading at 24.19.

-Girls D1 400 -
Strong field with Turquoise Thompson (LB Poly) leading through 200m at 25.9 over frosh Angelica Weaver (Rancho Cucamonga). Jasmine Joseph of Poly was on the outside in lane 8, with 39.6 for Thompson at 300 meters as her Poly teammate started her gather. Joseph edged up to and just past as Thompson leaned for a 53.75-53.76 win. Big points for Poly with their 1-2.

-Girls D1 800 -
30.6 opening 200 with Emily Dunn (Esperanza) and Ashley Richie (Silverado, Victor Valley) sharing the work. Dunn moved ahead at the 400 at 64.6, with Fountain Valley's Anja Disiena seriously challenging and keeping the pace rolling through the 600 at 1:36.8. Dunn exploded with 150 meters to go, and rocketed in to a Nation Leading 2:07.49, with Disiena 2:10.23 and State Champion Haley Lawrence (Aliso Niguel) creeping back in the picture at 2:11.17 in third.

-Girls D1 1600 -
Shannon Murakami (Saugus) had Claire Collison (Crescenta Valley) tag along through 34.3-68.8 splits, with a four meter lead at 1:44.1 through the 600 (35.3 that 200). Kauren Tarver sat back 20 meters. 2:20.1 at the 800 for Murakami with Collison 20 meters back, Tarver that far back in third, with Brooke Russell (Hart) fourth. The race was over by 1200, with Murakami 3:33.1 at the 1200 and Collison just under 3:40. Shannon seemed determined the entire final lap, racing 35.2 for the first 200 (4:08.3 at 1400) and coming in to win in the 4:42's with a 69 second final lap! Murakami 4:42.50 for the win with Collison 4:58.67 with Tarver 4:59.22 in third.

-Girls D1 3200 -
Christy Adamyk (Glendora) and Shannon Murakami (Saugus) set the early pace, with Murakami moving ahead at the three and a half lap mark to come by the 1600 at 5:11.3. Shannon led by 60 meters at 6:30 through 5 laps, with Rachel Lange (Crescenta Valley) and Sarah Cummings (Corona del Mar), the latter in her third race of the day, next. At six it was Murakami at 7:33, with the Lang-Cummings duo at 8:00. 9:15.5 with one to go for Murakami. Rachel Lange of CV ran the race of her life in second at 10:44.45. Murakami was 10:31.24, with nine in the combined race at 10:52.16 or better!

-Girls D1 HH -
Natalie Roy (Mission Viejo) a steady race in the easily spotted Yellow and Gold Diablo uniform in the middle, a solid personal best 14.12 (wind +1.9) win by a couple of meters over Lauren Williams (Chino Hills) 14.41.

-Girls D1 300H -
Turquoise Thompson (LB Poly) was among the nation's best at 41.74, and charged out from the start, before suddenly going down on the turn with what appeared to be a hamstring pull or cramp as she approached the third hurdle. April Pate (Carter, Rialto) continued her fine season with a 43.52 win over frosh Kristen Powers (Chaparral) 44.16.

-Girls D1 400 Re -
Long Beach Poly led into the first exchange with Jasmine Joseph indicated the lead-off runner over the PA, with a visual exchange with Turquoise Thompson into the backstretch. Wilson (Long Beach) charged leg 2 to work up to Rancho Verde and Poly in the battle for the lead, but the Poly Jackrabbits, with Hawkins on leg 3 had a definite lead into the anchor, with Wilson seeming to take off too early for the anchor leg. Poly raced to a 45.58 with Woodruff on the anchor, finally bettering their 45.79 Arcadia Invite time, but showing the ability to go still faster with perfect stick work. Rancho Verde was 46.15 in second, and Wilson next at 47.12.

-Girls D1 1600 Re -
Long Beach Poly and Rancho Verde were out strongly, with RV 56.6, LB Poly 56.7 and Wilson 59.6 on the lead-off. Poly led at the second exchange off a 56.1 leg, with RV close, and Rancho Cucamonga moving up. Rancho Verde appeared to cut in on Poly at the the start of the backstretch on leg three and the yelow flag immediately went up. Poly was 60.6 during a leg that lost stride fully, with Rancho Verde racing to a big lead. Jasmine Joseph closed the anchor at 52.8 to eventually win for Poly at 3:46.24. Officials huddled on the backstretch to figure out the yellow flag affecting the Rancho Verde-Poly situation, with the video replay an interesting one to make possible the review of the non-disqualification call. The Poly athlete seemed quite affected by the RV Girl’s action. The teams would finish 1-2 in the team scoring (RV 65 - P 62), with the 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 through eight in the finals.

-Girls D1 HJ -
Karen Han (Arcadia), Tara Richmond (Poly, Long Beach), and Ashley Henry (Rancho Cucamonga) all had no misses thorugh their 5-03 clearances, as did Ashley Smith from Millikan. Richmond and Smith were over 5-05 on their first efforts, with Han a second effort success there, and Henry over on her third try. At 5-07 Smith continued perfection on the day with a first effort “make” with none of the others able to clear that height. Smith went on to a pleasing 5-09 clearance on her second attempt, with Ashley, Richmond, and Henry only ninth graders, and Han a junior to bring a good group back in 2007!

-Girls D1 PV -
Katelyn Beighton (Los Alamitos) showed the Orange County strength in this event with an 11-06 win over Glendora's consistent Sarah Kasai at 11-00, with Beighton’s winner one inch short of her reported seasonal best of 11-07 from April’s Arcadia Invitational.

-Girls D1 LJ -
Rancho Verde impressive 1-2 sweep to help in the points department, with frosh Alycia Herring an 18-08.25w win (+2.4), and soph teammate Brittany Bozeman 18-02.25w (+2.3) next. Surprisingly only three in the division were over 18 feet, with Debra Amoah (Carter, Fontana) 18-00.5w (+2.8) third.

Girls D1 SP -
Stephanie Aliimatafitafi (Paramount) was a big winner, with all of her 40-07.75-39-07, 42-06, and 40-00.5 tosses able to take today’s competition. Jessica Bonner (Chaparral, Temecula) was next at 38-09.5 before moving up one place in the Discus.

-Girls D1 DT -
Jessica Bonner (Chaparral) moved up a place from the Shot, with a 142-07 second throw winner over Heather Snyder (Saugus) 132-05. Bonner’s series was 129-02, 142-07, 140-01, and 138-01, some consistency!

-Boys D2 100 -
Fine race, with first year trackster Josh Brown (El Modena) out quickly, with Bryan Williams (Valley View) also up-front. Out of lane 5 between them Josh Harrison (Rio Mesa) rocketed up the last 30 meters, with the trio amazingly all finishing at 10.79, with Williams-Brown-Harrison sorted out in that order eventually in the photo. Primm pressed all the way through to the tape at 1:50.90, a Divisional record, taking down Greg Vining's 1:51.60 for Hawthorne from 1980! Bailey, a junior, was 1:52.38 in second, with fellow eleventh grader Simmons from Beverly Hills 1:52.73 in third.

Boys D2 1600 -
Troy's Jonathan Shawel raced away through a 63.0 opening 400, with people surprisingly sitting way back a ways behind him through a 1:35.3 600. Redondo's Cody Schmidt was fifth some 30 meters back with the 1200 at 3:26.5 for the four leaders. Linen was still leading at 4:35.8 for 1600m with Hall taking over at 1700 meters. A 33.5 200 broke things up that lap 5, with 32.5 for the next 200 to come by five laps (2000m) at 5:41.9, with Morikawa struggling to try to go with him. Chad was 33.4 for 6:15.2 at the 2200 meter mark, with 34.4 (6:49.5) at the next six lap mark. A 34.3 and 34.5 had 7:58.2 for Hall and a 35 meter lead over Linen and Morikawa. -Boys D2 300H -
Reggie Wyatt (North, Riverside) came to run, and was well ahead with his 13 step stride pattern at 23.6 through the 200. He romped in to a 36.57 Divisional record, and improved his state soph best in the process. Guy makes it look effortless!!

-Girls D2 200 -
Cindy Robinson (Norwalk) cranked the turn, with 400 winner Tiera Hilliard (Mayfair) starting a big stretch run down the straight that had her emerge the eventual winner at 24.28 (wind +.3) over Robinson's 24.67.

Girls D2 400 -
Tiera Hilliard (Mayfair, Lakewood) was out best, but the wind on the backstretch was kicking up and she was 26.7 at the 200 into that condition. Through a 41.1 300 Woodbridge's Kyle Wolff was still close, with Hilliard finishing strong and edging in ahead by five meters at 55.96-56.77.

-Girls D2 800 -
Anniya Louis (Culver City) dared all to chase her as she went out at 61.4. Through 1:35 at the 600 only Edison's Meghan Foley was in the same area code, with Louis continuing to power ahead to a 2:09.16 win, taking down the Division II record of 2:09.82 by Suzy Henzel (Valencia, Placentia) from 1983. The powerful Louis will be tough to handle in the next couple of weeks.

-Girls D2 1600 -
Another fine four lap group with Simi's Anna Sperry and Woodbridge's defending State Champ Christine Babcock 36.1 at the 200 and right at 71 for the first 400. Sperry, Babcock, and Hilary Hayes (Edison, HB) led at 600 meters at 1:48.6, with the first seven in kind of a nice line. Babcock, realizing you do need a time to move on to next week, took the lead at 2:24.5 at the 800, with she, Sperry, and Hayes edging away by the 1000 meter mark at 3:01.2. Babcock and Sperry were 3:36.8 at the 1200 with the duo racing down the backstretch, Babcock, sprinting away with 200 to go, and Hayes apearing on her way to a good time in third. -Girls D2 HH -
Gina Deckard (Culver City) a fine start in blue in the middle, with Kori Carter (Claremont), next to Deckard’s lane 5 spot in 4, battling back over the final couple of barriers for the narrow win at an impressive 14.18-14.19 (+0.6). Carter is only a frosh who has steadily improved this year after a fine age-group career. She impressed with one early season 1600 meter entry in an early season Invitational, with Section Hurdle champs not often volunteering for such a distance.

-Girls D2 300H -
Kiersten Kirkland (North, Riverside) on the inside in lane 3 was out, with Kristen Kiefer (Capistrano Valley) taking a spill on the turn). Kirkland led 27.0-27.1 over San Marcos's Lyndsay Pearson at the 200, with Kori Carter (Claremont) continuing her magic day with a big run in that had her appear to have the momentum at the finish, but Kirkland was given the win on a close photo look, both at 42.96.

-Girls D2 400 Re -
Rio Mesa in lane 5 and Dominguez in 6 battled into the anchor leg, with the Rio Mesa anchor appearing to hold off Shanell Stephans, with Dominguez and Rio Mesa coming up on the sheet in a dead heat at 47.56. Later it was amended to show Dominguez a 47.551 winner over RM's 47.558.

Girls D2 -1600 Re -
JW North and Woodbridge came in with easily the best times. Woodbridge led after leg 1 at 56.8, with North 58.5. Culver City was still up front, with Eisenhower a close fourth after leg 1. North challenged late in leg two, with a four meter lead at the exchange (they actually started the next running leg even when Woodbridge had a better baton pass), with JW 56.9 and Woodbridge 58.6 for that segment. Christine Babcock ran leg 3 for Woodbridge, gave up a bunch, then battled back to be even at the hand-off. North was 57.8, with Babock 58.0. North led on the anchor, with Woodbridge closing to within a meter in an exciting 15 meter final sprint! North anchored at 56.5, with Woodbridge 56.3. North was 3:49.61, with Woodbridge a tenth back at 3:49.71, with the duo very close to the Divisional record of 3:49.49 by Hawthorne from way back in 1983.

-Girls D2 HJ -
Steady Orange County star Jessica Robson (Newport Harbor) joined Hannah Valdez (Dos Pueblos) as the only athletes in the field with a clean slate (no misses) up through their 5-03 clearances. Robson added a first effort make at 5-05, with Hannah three misses there, and Jessica was the winner. It was noted on the field event sheet that Valdez did not return for the jump off (we assume for the nine spots to the state qualifier), so she is the first alternate for that competition.

-Girls D2 PV -
Allison Stokke (Newport Harbor), 13-07 this season, entered at 12-00, cleared that height, then had three misses at 13-00 to finish the day with four vaults. With winds on that straight with the vault switching around it seems like an interesting place to secure a consistent step--from one race in the 100m to the next it switched from -.1 to +2.8, almost three meters per second. Chrissy VanDoornum (Huntington Beach) was second at 11-06, which would beat her reported seasonal best of 11-00.

-Girls D2 LJ -
German foreign exchange student, and 19 foot plus jumper, Eva Mueggenburg (Granite Hills, Apple Valley) was a surprisingly easy winner at 18-05.25 (+1.1), with Bonnie Sorensen (Huntington Beach) next at 17-07 (0), and Seraina Hedgepeth (Rio Mesa), part of the great young Oxnard area team that will be a big factor the next couple of years, third at 17-05 (-2.4)

-Girls D2 TJ -
Shannon Forbes (Peninsula) was 37-03.75 (+.8) on her first jump, and that held on for the win. Santa Barbara rivals Hannah Valdez (Dos Pueblos 37-02 (+2.0) and Lyndsay Pearson (San Marcos 36-11.25 (+1.7) were second and third.

Girls D2 SP -
Hilary Fraser (El Toro) was 41-08.5 on her opener and that would have been good enough to win, and she was 43-01.75 on her second effort and 44-00.75 on the final put in the event. Whitney Ashley, part of the deep, balanced JW North (Riverside) program was 40-01.25 in second, with Ayala senior Ify Agwuenu next at 39-08. .

-Girls D2 DT -
Hilary Fraser (El Toro) finished out her fine weight double with a 154-03 win, nearly a twenty foot winner over Claire Morgan (Ventura) 134-04 and Christne Weinrich (Arroyo Grande) 134-01. Fraser’s series was 141-10, 125-04, 136-00, and 154-03. Weinrich was one of four Pac-7 League members who ended as finalists here.

Division III Boys

-Boys D3 100 -
Nick Porter (Nore Dame) broke well out of lane 7, but once soph Randall Carroll (Cathedral) over in lane 4 got up a head of steam it was all over, with the Cathedral star who pulled here in this race last year chasing ND star Rodney Glass, rode the +2.0 wind to a 10.58 win over Lequan Lewis (Artesia) 10.73. The national age-group champ Carroll continues to develop.

-Boys D3 200 -
Nick Porter (Notre Dame) led into the straight, with Lequan Lewis (Artesia) moving up to challenge, but on the outside Randall Carroll (Cathedral) had his eyes on a sprint double and he raced on the outside past everyone to win at 21.86 (wine -1.3). After pulling up in this meet year after a good start to his frosh year, the double win had to be extra pleasing for Randall.

-Boys D3 400 -
Tojsh Kennedy (Bishop Montgomery) was out quickly at the start, with Notre Dame's Chris Barton charging the backstretch to be even through a 23.6 200. Barton rolled through the turn to a narrow lead at 35.4 at the 300 meter mark. The Notre Dame senior was a comfortable winner at 48.09 to Kennedy's 48.58.

-Boys D3 800 -
Ryan Martin (Santa Margarita) was out to the lead from the start, racing 26.6 and 55.9, with a 12 meter lead, which he stretched to 15 by the 600 at 1:25.0. Martin was unpressed through his 1:54.01 win, and looks ahead to competition.

Boys D3 1600 -
Soph Brendon Confer (Servite) led through a 31.3 opening 200, with the pack close at 63.7. At 2:08.7 not much had changed, with people seeming to not realize a good time was needed to move on. Cabrillo junior Miguel Ortiz (not frosh like program says) led at the 1000 meter mark at 2:42.4 before 4:09 star Fawad Khan (Palos Verdes) took over at 3:15.3 at the 1200. Brandon Shirck (Nordhoff) moved up to challenge at 3:45.2 and the 1400, with Khan exploding to what semed like a sub 4:15 win, with a sub-60 final 400. Khan 4:14.84 - Shirck 4:15.87 - Telles (Santa Margarita) 4:17.18.

-Boys D3 HH -
Terry Prentice (Diamond Ranch) was off to the races, with a nearly flight lead by the end in a 13.87 win with the wind +1.7 mps.

-Boys D3 300H -
Terry Prentice dominating early here with Marcus Thompson (Muir) ahead of the pack most way through the event. Terry was out rolling, 24.9 at the 200, then cruising to a 38.93 win, slowing at the finish, with Thompson coming coming close at 39.07.

-Boys D3 400 Re -
Notre Dame and Servite batttled through two legs, with we believe Nick Porter on leg three for ND busting it open. Chris Barton held the lead down the homestretch for the Knights as they won at 42.08 over Servite's 42.47.

-Boys D3 1600 Re -
Good pack together at the first exchange, with Notre Dame and Northview battling and Lutheran of Orange (49.7 lead-off Notre dame). The ND Knights led at the end of leg two with a 50.0 effort there. Orange Lutheran led for a time on leg three, with ND charging past with a 49.7 leg, and state placer and today's Divisional 400 champ, Christ Barton on the anchor. Barton powered a 47.9 finale and the ND group totalled 3:17.49. Unfortunately the news later came up that Notre Dame was DQ'd for a lane violation and Lutheran was the winner 3:19.66 over Santa Margarita 3:19.99.

-Boys D3 HJ -
6-9 jumper Leland Anderson (Lawndale) was the winner here at 6-06 with first effort clearances all the way to and including that height. Oak Park's Kareem Maddox (6-04) had a slightly cleaner clearance record than soph Tyler Ruiz (Notre Dame, SO) (6-04) for second.

Boys D3 PV -
Hoku Ho of Temple City continues the fine TC vault tradition with a win here at 14-06 over Atascadero junior AJ Teunisssen (14-03),

Boys D3 LJ -
Terry Prentice (Diamond Ranch, Pomona) had the show going early in field event action with a 24-04 and a fraction, one of the best jumps in the nation. It was 24-04.75 (+0.3) and he added a 23-11 (+1.1), with Jon Joe (San Dimas) a fine 23-02.75 (+1.4) in second, and Xiao Lu (Temple City) 22-00.5 in third.

-Boys D3 TJ -
Diamond Ranch's Melvin Hakim was 45-08.25 (+0.9) with three efforts better than second placer Masson Blow (Lompoc) 44-10.75 (nwi).

-Boys D3 SP -
Joe Canavan blasted 65-10.5 on his second throw, and was 65-07.25 on a final toss as he went after his 66-00 seasonal best from Arcadia. He bettered his Divisional record of 65-00.5 set last week in the Prelims. Daniel Cruz (Barstow) finally got his 60-footer with a 60-04.25 to start things out this day on his first throw.

Boys D3 DT -
Blake Ayles (Lutheran, Orange) 190-06 and 185-02 on his final two throws in a huge effort and almost seven foot personal improvement. Daniel Cruz (Barstow) continued his fine season with a personal best 178-08 in second (on his second throw, with 174-10 and 171-10 to follow).

Division - III Girls

-Girls D3 100 -
Dominique Augustus (Notre Dame) a good start, with the expected challenge by Centennial's Dominique Sterling never appearing, as Artesia's Nikki Perkins was up front to battle most of the race. Augustus closed to a 12.33 win with the wind reversing a couple meters from the last race to -0.1, with a +2.8 for the Div IV contest before!

-Girls D3 200 -
Brianna Atkins (Bonita) added a second win after the 400, as she powered the 100 around the turn in 12.2, and pulled away to a 24.14 win with the wind at zero. Fellow 400 rivals Joy Eaton (St. Lucy's) 24.57 and Brittany Harper (Calabasas) 24.80 were second and third.

-Girls D3 400 -
Joy Eaton (St. Lucy's) appeared in control through a 25.5 200, with Brianna Atkins an impressive stretch run to edge in ahead at 54.49, a divisional record ahead of the 54.88 by Lashawn Stringer of Morningside from back in 1993. Eaton was 54.64, with both big personal bests. Atkins was at Rancho Cucamonga last year and had a slow, patient build to her success her this spring.

-Girls D3 800 -
Tonie Williams (San Luis Obispo) out quickly, under 30 sconds for the fist 200, with 5 Corona del Mar athletes in the event! Wiliams was right at 63 for the 400, with Lauren Meadors (Harvard-Westlake), then CdM's Shelby Buckley by at the mid 1:37's for 600 meters. Buckley held together during a tough kick after her sub-4:50 1600 to impress a lot and win at 2:09.66, with Williams 2:10.41 in second, Meadors next at 2:11.71, and HW senior teammate Lizzy Danhakl 2:12.20 in fourth.

-Girls D3 1600 -
Corona del Mar against the world here, with the Newport Beach crew four across the middle at the starting line. Shelby Buckley led at the 200 at 38.2. A very tight pack was at 75.0 at the 400. Sarah Cummings (CdM) led at 2:27.4 at the 800, with the CdM crew joined by fellow Orange County star Vanessa Hancock (Brea) at the 1200 at 3:41.2. Shelby Buckley was 34.3 for the next 200 with the other CdM trio sitting back a bit (1400 4:15.4 for the leader), as Buckley raced in at 4:48.69 with Damon 4:53.84 and May 4:54.95 for CdM in second and third. Adding in Sarah Cummings (4:59.83 this day) and CdM is way under the National 4x1 mile relay record, should they run it in post-season action.

-Girls D3 HH -
Great race!! Whitney Liehr (Palos Verdes lane 6) appeared to be the early leader along with Kiani Profit (Muir lane 3) on the other side of the track. Favorite Latisha Holden (Barstow), in the middle in lane 5, battled up half-way through. Jalisa Williams (Muir), who had been injured part of the season, charged eventually over in lane 7 to the finish to win over teammate Profit for a big Mustang 1-2, 14.34 and 14.40 (0) .

-Girls D3 300H -
Defending Champ Kiani Profit of Muir in lane 5 dominated the contest here, racing through the 200 at 26.9 and just hesitating ever so slightly at the last hurdle to run 42.35, just missing her own Divisional record of 41.97 from last year.

-Girls D3 400 Re -
Kiani Profit led off Muir with a huge first leg, with St. Lucy's moving up by the second exchange but the two athletes involved in that exchange for the squad collided and fell. Centennial, a fine sprint crew, in all red in the middle, moved up strongly on leg 3 and had a definite lead at the start of the anchor leg. They raced in ahead to a win at 47.80, with Muir 48.11 and Notre Dame (SO) 48.58 in third.

-Girls D3 1600 Re -
Notre Dame led through the high 57's on leg one with Centennial and Barstow moving up. The red-clad Centennial group took the lead during leg two off a 57.3 effort, with Harvard-Westlake and Muir moving up near the front. A 57.9 third leg decided things and put Centennial 50 meters out in front for the start of the anchor leg, with Orange Lutheran having moved into second by that point. A 55.3 anchor had Centennial win easily at 3:49.94, with OL 3:54.06 in second.

-Girls D3 HJ -
This event contributed to kind of an interesting close to the day, with the battle for the second place team plaque sorted out at the end of a long day. Notre Dame senior Zania Akeh had a great day, bettering her personal best with a perfect day through 5-05, with second place finisher Taylor Johnson (Oak Park) successful at 5-03, but not able to make it over that next higher height. It turned out that behind team winner Corona del Mar, way out there with 80 points, Notre Dame and Muir battled for the second place award, with the Mustangs having Jasmine Clark in the field. Clark cleared 4-07, then scratched from the event in ninth, so she scored nothing (scoring through eight places here). Notre Dame essentially came from nine points behind to a one point win with Akeh’s ten point victory in the battle for the runner-up plaque, as the Knights ended with 52 to Muir’s 51.

-Girls D3 PV -
Aubree Stark (Oak Park) was an 11-06 winner on missed over Shastee Vanderwyk of Temple City at the same height, with the height a seasonal best for the lastest of the fine TC vaulters.

-Girls D3 LJ -
20-footer Karyn Dunn (Diamond Ranch) was 18-08.5 (0) , a full foot better than anyone else in the field on her first effort with that mark. Whitney Liehr (Palos Verdes) improved through 16-08.75 (+1.3), 17-09.25 (+0.4), 18-03.25 (+.5), and 18-05.75 (0) for second on a big award winning day for her all over the facility!

-Girls D3 TJ -
Whitney Liehr (Palos Verdes) was 39-07.5w (+2.1) on her opener, with a 41-00.5w (+2.9) bomber for the Stanford bound star on in Round 2 to dominate the field, with Tiffany Liu (Corona del Mar) 38-04.75w (+3.7) in second, moving up a couple places as she achieved that and for her team on her final leap. Liehr was 39-07.5w (+2.1), 41-00.5w (+2.9), 36-08w (+2.9), and a pass.

-Girls D3 SP -
Renee Hays (Bishop Amat) moved from fourth to first on her final throw to win at 39-04. Alexa Berg (Notre Dame, Sherman Oaks) was 39-01.75 on her first effort to lead most of the competition. Discus star Kayla Kovar (Burroughs, Ridgecrest) was third at 38-07.5.

-Girls D3 DT -
Kayla Kovar (Burroughs, Ridgecrest) was just short of her 147-11 seasonal best from Arcadia, with the soph a fine 146-00 winner, another field event champ with her three fair efforts all better than the second place finisher this day (series of 130-10, foul, 132-04, and the 146-00 winner). Nipomo's Kathleen Bader (126-11) and Jeanette DeWitt (122-04) added to the greater San Luis Obispo/Arroyo Grande area weight event awards haul this day!

Division IV Boys

-Boys D4 100 -
Adam Long (St. Bernard, Playa del Rey) super strong run to a fine 10.53w win (+2.4). Oaks Christan footballer Chris Owusu was next at 10.66w, with Crespi's Austin Shanks 10.73w in third.

-Boys D4 200 -
Adam Long (St. Benrad) continued his super meet, charging the entire event to win 21.49 (wind -0.7) over Austin Shanks (Crespi) 21.66 and Chris Owusu (Oaks Christian) 21.71.

-Boys D4 400 -
Crespi's Mark Whatley of Crespi, a junior, was out with J Serra's (Orange County version of the Serras) Jarrett Moore through the 200 at 23.5. The loose and powerful Crespi runner, who looks capable of a lot faster, raced away to a 48.77 win by over a second.

-Boys D4 800 -
La Salle's Westley Riley was out quick, 26 and 55 through the 200 and 400, leading by a lot! He still was way ahead at under 1:25 for the 600, but Woodcrest Christian's David Branch started a run through the final turn that had him rocket up and past to a 1:55.09 win over Riley's 1:56.04.

Boys D4 1600 -
Chad Hall (Big Bear) does live, with a 31.2 opening 200 and 62.4 first 400 to already edge to an 8 meter lead. Chad pressed through the 600 at 1:33.6 (31.3 that 200), with a 2:04.8 at the 800. Through a 2:36.9 1000 Adam Cunningham (Milken Community) was surprisingly close, with the 3:10.6 1200 only having him 10 meters behind. Adam pressed close by the 1400 at 3:42.2 for the leader Hall, with Hall more energetic over the final 200 to win at 4:14. Cunningham was impressive in second. Hall 4:14.00-Cunningham 4:14.57.

Boys D4 3200 -

Boys D4 HH -
Division is set for a couple of years, with fine looking soph James Kennedy (Serra) a narrow winner over fellow 10th grader Mikio Island (Crespi) 14.66-14.74 (0 wind), with Island a very successful age-group star.

Boys D4 300H -
It looked like another soph battle between Serra's James Kennedy and Crespi's Mikio Island. Kennedy was rolling at 24.1 slightly ahead through the 200, with Island close, but suddenly flailing his arms as he lost balance at hurdle 7 and losing all momentum, while Kennedy raced to a fine 38.70 win and his teammate Jerome Kendricks moved up to 39.59 in second ahead of Island’s 39.86.

Boys D4 400 Re -
Serra and Crespi raced through leg 2 up front, with the Celts (Crespi) taking the definite lead around the second turn. It was off to the races for Crespi, as they comfortably won at 42.58 over football power St. Bonaventure 43.36. .

-Boys D4 1600 Re -
Crespi, with a nearly four second lead in qualifying, led through leg one for 300 meters, with Laguna Beach finishing strong. Crespi led off at 51.2, and charged into leg two with the lead. A 50.2 second leg added quite a bit to the Celtic lead, with Serra running in second. A 51.6 third leg featured a near dead-stop hand-off for Crespi, with Serra closing down a bit, but Crespi just had too much fire power in this event, with Mark Whatley 48.2 on the anchor and the squad running 3:21.21-3:24.91 win.

Boys D4 HJ -
Fine Junipero Serra (Orange County one) Harrison Steed showed his strength in the big meets, with the 6-06 frosh jumper a 6-04 winner here, and no misses until he could make his PR again in this competition.

Boys D4 PV -
Very strong division in the Vault this year at this level, with Justin Matoesian (Crespi) winning over Dusty Brown (St. Paul) and Davis Minguez (La Salle), all three at 14-09.

Boys D4 LJ -
Gabe Meyers (Chaminade, West Hills) had two fouls and a 22-03.75 (+.09) on his third effort to take the win over St. Bonaventure's James Short 21-11 (+1.2). The winning mark was a seasonal best for Meyers.

-Boys D4 TJ -
DaJuan Henry (Valley Christian, Cerritos) was a fine 45-07.75 (+1.0) on his opener to take the win, with Duek Ihenacho (Serra) 45-05.75w (+2.3) also on his first jump for second.

-Boys D4 SP -
Julius Joseph (Serra) added to the team point total with a 54-05.5 win that was almost eight feet farther than last week's qualifying mark. Top hammer thrower Conor McCullough (Chaminade) was second at 53-01.5

Boys D4 DT -
A tight group had the first three within two feet, and all three eleventh graders. Serra's Julius Joseph helped his team by emerging the winner with a come through 148-02 on his final toss that took him from fourth to first. Justin Cutler (Tempoleton) was 147-03 on his first throw to take the lead early, with Ryan Panapa (St. Bonaventure) 146-06 on his third effort for the silver medal.

Division IV Girls

-Girls D4 100 -
Yasmin Woodruff (St. Mary's) was the class here in the qualifying meet last week, with a six tenths margin over the pack. Brittany Clark (Laguna Beach) had a better start, but once the racing started Woodruff ran the field down on the way to an 11.65w (+2.8 mps) win, with teammate Lo'Rena De'Jurnett next at 12.12w, and Clark third at 12.15w.

-Girls D4 200 -
Aljah Urserry (St. Mary's) added to the point haul for the Inglewood school with as the late-season emerging frosh star cranked a 24.71 win (+2.0 mps wind - she qualified last week at 25.62!) over top qualifier Melanie Chapman of Paraclete 24.88 and Ashley Campbell (Valley Christian , Cerritos) 24.91.

-Girls D4 400 -
Big race for team points. Anjul Street (St. Mary's) was out quickly, with Carlyle Davis (Marlborough) up and a meter lead at 26.4 for the 200 mark. Davis continued to edge away, with teammate Kate Grace running third through 300 meters with the leader Davis at 40.4. Carlyle raced down the homestretch to a comfortable win at 56.01, with teammate Grace next at 57.20 garnering some big team points as Marlborough started to pull away as a team.

-Girls D4 800 -
Carlyle Davis (Marlborough) was out at 30.0, with teammate Kate Grace second at 64.1 at the 400. Grace and Roseanne Fleming (Oaks Christian) moved up to challenge at 1:41.4 for the 600. Marlborough teammates Grace and Davis charged down the homestretch, the state cross-country champ Kate Grace the winner at 2:14.73-2:15.48.

-Girls D4 1600 -
Roseanne Fleming (Oaks Christian) 72 second opening 400 with a pack of 5 together through 600 meters at 1:51.5. Margaret Sitker (La Salle) and Ashley Phillips joined Felming in edging away from the field at 2:31 for 800 meters. At 3:49 Fleming had pulled away to a 20 meter lead, and continued to power away, 4:27 at the 1400 as she attempted to go close to 5:00. The fine Oaks Christian junior Fleming raced to a 50 meter win at 5:04.10, with Ashley Phillips of Marlborogh nice second place points for her team with a 5:11.11 finish.

Girls D4 3200 -
Alex Crawley (Laguna Beach) ended the winner here at 11:22.90 as they ran with Division II.

-Girls D4 HH -
Emani Truluck (Malibu) and London Finley (St. Mary's) battled early, with a big age-group star from a couple of years ago, Finley, emerging the strong winner in a super 14.22 (+1.3). Truluck was a fine 14.31 in second. Marlborough, with amazing depth, had Ashtynn Baltimore third at 14.51.

-Girls D4 300H -
Jordan Finley (St. Mary's) who was in the 14.20's in the 10 Hurdles, continued her "break-out," with a 42.36 monster run here that dominated the field. It was a divisional record, breakinig the mark set by Kimyon Broom (Serra 43.15 last year). Finley is realizing the potential she showed a couple of years back as a star age-grouper. Pesky Marlborough picked up eight points with Ashtynn Baltimore in second at 44.67.

-Girls D4 400 Re -
St. Mary's of Inglewood rolled into the anchor with a huge lead, and raced away to a big win. Marlborough was second into that segment and battled a group for those important team points. St. Mary's was 47.47, with Marlborough holding on to second at 48.32, with Serra 48.40 and Paraclete 48.47. Fifth place for Valley Christian (Cerritos) at 48.54 is some pretty impressive depth at this level, probably the best ever!

-Girls D4 1600 Re -
St. Mary's had a 57.8 lead-off with Marlborough a bit back at 59.7. Kate Grace brought Marlborough up to challenge during a 56.2 leg, with St. Mary's 57.1 on leg 2. The SM crew pulled away with a 57.2 third leg (consistency personified here), with Marlborough 60.4 there. The St. Mary's Girls in Blue and gold finished it off in style with a 57.3 to finish at 3:49.52, with they and Marlborough two super Division IV Teams, finishing in reverse order here (Marlborough was second at 3:55.60) in the team contest (M 112 - ST M 93). The 3:49.52 just missed the 3:49.31 Divisonal record set last year by the fine Louisville squad.

-Girls D4 HJ -
Super all-around star Camilla Dencer had transferred from Louisville to West Valley Christian, with the 123 student school its first Section Track and Field Champion, as Camilla repeated her title win for a second institution! She did have to work for it, as Rebekah Van Dyk of Valley Christian (Cerritos) started way back at 4-09 this day (Camilla entered at 5-01), with the VC star over 4-9, 4-11, 5-1, and joining Dencer over 5-03 along with third placer Erica Whitley (St. Bonaventure). At 5-05, both Dencer and Van Dyk cleared on their third trial, a personal best for the Valley Christian athlete, and seasonal best for the defending champ. Neither could make their way over 5-07, with the countback having Dencer the winner.

-Girls D4 PV
Lauren Radke (Oaks Christian) was a winner with a first effort clearance at 11-00 over Nicole Foster (Morro Bay) who also cleared that height, PR’s for both according to our records. .

-Girls D4 LJ -

-Girls D4 TJ - Amanda Hunter (Marlborough) won by nearly three feet, with one of the state's best a big 40-07w (+3.8) second effort that followed a foul and preceded two passes for the busy star. Shahar Thomas (Westridge) led the rest of the group back at 37-08.5 (+1.8), with the top foru here underclassers.

-Girls D4 SP -
Teresa Loya (St. Joseph, Santa Maria) led off the competition with a 39-06 mark that held up over Jane Chafeh (Notre Dame, Riverside), who improved through 38-04.75, 38-05.75 and a fineal 39-04.5 for second. There was four feet back to third after the first two.
