Individual Race Predictions
DIVISION V
Doug Speck - Editor DyeStatCal

The following predictions are an attempt to predict the State Meet
Finals finish in Fresno. Emphasis is on "end of season" performances, with
consideration given to major "in-season" heads up races in major competitions
around the state

Girls Division V

1. **JORDAN HASAY (Mission College Prep, San Luis Obispo-CE) - Defending national champ has made this a "duh" prediction for the winner, with the central California coastal star measuring her season over the next few weeks in consideration of how hard to push it here.  The soph course record at Woodward is one of prep history's All-Time great performances, a 16:45 run by Julia Stamps (Santa Rosa) from 1994, with Jordan's 17:02 from last Fall the 9th grade standard here. 4:42.41 mile last June in track, and 10:07.56 3200m on the oval, the best run in the nation among preps last year in winning at Arcadia.

Roger wins at Stinson Beach in early September

2. *ALESANDRA ROGER (Marin Academy, San Rafael, NCS) - Name has earned us a C+ in spelling so far this fall, but her running of an "A" nature!  Comfortable Section win and good run in big contest at Stanford in September, with an eighth place finish in this competition last year for the Marin County star.  11:22.10 3200 in track, seventh in NCS Meet of Champions.

3. -HAGEN ATKINS (Durham - No) - Top ten performance at this level last year with super Section Finals run that had her best a number of stars at this level from the North end of the State.  2:18.5 800 in track.

4. **ELIZABETH APGAR (Calvary Christian, San Diego - SD) - Fourth here last year as a ninth grader, proving herself at this level, Elizabeth was an area Finals winner by nearly two minutes a week ago, and should come in ready for some good competition.

5. -KATIE FRITZKE (Mt. Shasta - No) - What will we do without a Fritzke in the cross-country results in the big meets next Fall? Oh well----  Strong leader of a great team from the North, Katie will be pushing for every point and keeping an eye out for those Woodcrest Girls along the way, with hopes to move up from her seventh place from last Fall.

6. ***AMBER COLLIER (Woodcrest Christian, Riverside - SS) Speaking of Woodcrest, they slightly have it going on at that school, with a new wave of stars each year, this time coming in duplicates, with Amber and twin Breean having folks seeing "double!"  The super ninth grader took the Southern Section Division V contest, and had some fine big Invitational runs during the fall, including a 19:10 here at Woodward in the Clovis Invite that would have placed fifth in last year's State Meet.  Another with the "team" impetus to power her effort this day.

7. -ANDREA IMHOF (University, San Francisco - NCS) Yes that is one "f" despite our efforts otherwise through the seasons!  Latest great from one of the state's most prolific suppliers or small school talent, Imhof was fifth here last year and probably feels she can do at least that this coming weekend!  NCS runner-up to Roger, with a fine run in the big Stanford Invitational, she will add "up-front" depth to a talented field!   5:07.67 1600m and 2:16.91 800m bests on the track.

8. ***BREEAN COLLIER (Woodcrest Christian, Riverside - SS) Not listed among finishers in the Southern Section Finals, she and twin sister Amber have raced through a super season, and if there is a recoverable medical reason to put her on the course in Fresno, she will be here or better by the finish.  She was 19:09 here at the Clovis Invite, and had a sterling season of fine efforts.

9. *LIZZY GRUBER (Redding Adventist, Redding - No) Lizzy is another of that wave of small-school stars that come from the far north, with a step out the front door usually leaving folks with an inspirational training route!   She was the third qualifier from her division out of the Northern Section, with that area capable of taking home most of the individual awards through tenth at this level!

10. **CYNTHIA LAIACONA (Mt. Shasta - No) Part of a great Mt. Shasta Northern Section championship squad, Cynthia was eleventh at State last Fall, and has a number of fine races in Invitationals this Fall.  The team is attempting to repeat as State Champions, and with Natalie Sojka, runner-up last year at state joining the team as #4 runner at Sections, Cynthia is another on a "team mission" this day in addition to going for individual honors.

Close division, with Katie Mooney (Mission College Prep, SLO) just ahead of fast-improving Lauren Aycock (Woodcrest Christian, Riverside) for the tenth spot should Breean Collier have a health condition that does not allow her to race at Fresno.

Boys Divison V

1. -ROBBIE KNORR (Valley Christian, Dublin - CCS) It will be a great contest up-front, with Robbie (second here last season) and last year's third placer Brent Handa, also back, able to match-up against anyone at any level!  Robbie has had a fine series of Invitational runs, with a big 45 second CCS win leaving him hungry for some competition to finish out the regular prep season here.  This will be a fun "up-front" contest to watch! 9:26.07 3200m in Track.

2. -BRENT HANDA (Fall River - No) Another Division V athlete who is sophisticated far beyond his level, Brent will try to move ahead of his strong rival Knorr in their final prep races for their schools!  A comfortable 30 second plus Section overall winner, Brent had an especially fine 15:18 effort in late October at the Sweepstakes level at Mt. SAC and will hope to springboard from that to the next level and race in ahead of Robbie Saturday.  9:26.85 3200 last track season.

3. -KODY PETERSON (Woodcrest Christian, Riverside - SS) The purple folks seem to come in waves from Woodcrest, with Peterson leading another powerful group that will leave the school searching for trophy room space!  The third returnee at this level from last November, Kody has had a super series of big Invitational runs this fall that should lead to real success here once again!

4. *ARIC VAN HALEN (Oakwood Academy, North Hollywood - SS) Fine junior was seventh here last year, with a strong runner-up effort to Peterson down south.  Solid locally, hopefully he can travel well.

5. **JAKE JEANSON (Woodcrest Christian, Riverside - SS)  Super soph was top twenty-five at this level last Fall, and has improved steadily to a sub-16:00 performance in the Southern Section Meet that runs a tad faster than here (he did race 16:15 in the Clovis Invite earlier this year on the Woodward Course).  Look for the solid Woodcrest pack near the front as the Royals hope to race to the team title!

6. -BRIAN COLE (St. Helena-NCS) Solid NCS Championship race effort should set the star from that area up for a top half-dozen effort here.  4:16.86 1600m in track last spring.

7. *MATT GIUSTE (King's Academy, Sunnyvale - CCS) - Fine CCS Finals effort behind Robbie Knorr should set the Giuste up for a good State Meet run in Fresno.

8. *HANK CARL (South Fork, Miranda - NCS) - Division V star has traveled up and down the state in search of the best competition, with solid runs at Mt. SAC, Stanford, and the Section meet that should give him confidence heading into the Fresno competition.

9. *DAVID BRANCH (Woodcrest Christian, Riverside - SS) - Sold fourth in the area Section contest, David has a series of good Invitational efforts, including a 16:22 here at the Clovis Invite at Woodward, and he will be hoping to help lead the Woodcrest crew to Championshp land!

10. *CONNOR ROSE (Sage Hill, Newport Beach - SS) - Fifth out of the Southern Section, Rose has a best there of right over 16 minutes, and a fine overall season that should squeeze him into the victory ceremony tent at Fresno with a good run there!
