Individual Race Predictions
DIVISION III
Doug Speck - Editor DyeStatCal

The following predictions are an attempt to predict the State Meet
Finals finish in Fresno. Emphasis is on "end of season" performances, with
consideration given to major "in-season" heads up races in major competitions
around the state

Boys Divison III

1. *Mohamed Abdalla (Willow Glen, San Jose-CCS) - Very tough competitor who seems primed to take it all here.  At eighth place form last Fall he's the top returnee in the division, and has had a number of fine efforts during the 2006 Fall.  Fine 15:21 at Toro Park to win the CCS Finals.  A 9:22.36 3200 runner in the spring.

2. -Alex Avilez (Valley Center-SD) - Another solid racer who has had a super fall!  Section Champ by over 100 meters, he marked a trip north to the Mt. SAC with a fine 15:23 there.  He was twenty-second at this level last year, and should chop at least twenty places off that finish this go-round!

3. -Marcos Corona (Willow Glen, San Jose-CCS) - After a "same-time" 15:21 for second in the CCS Finals to teammate Abdalla, Corona is probably smarting from a placement this far down the list.  Tenth last year at this level, he has fine 1:58.08 800 meter speed to "cruise with the pack!"

4. -Fawah Khan (Palos Verdes-SS) - Section Champ down south, he has 4:13.66 1600 speed and a series of good Fall races.  Another who will battle with the front pack and could win it all.  He was twenty-first at this level last fall.

5. *James Tracy (Del Campo, Fair Oaks-SJ) - Section champ by over 100 meters from a school with a fine tradition, Tracy is another here who could take it all, with our lead pack getting quite crowded as we move down this listing!   James ran 9:32.04 for 3200 last year as a soph.

6. -Andrew Ratley (Palos Verdes-SS) - Super run last weekend to finish second to teammate Khan, Andrew will try to key there once again and have the recently re-opened campus re-arriving as an athletic power with two in the top half-dozen here!  Tradition with a hiccup due to a school closure (for a time interestingly) from one of the nation's strong distance powerhouse schools going back over recent decades.

7. -Alan Lloyd (Burroughs, Ridgecrest-SS) - Fine third in the Southern Section meet at under 15:30 on the challenging Mt. SAC facility, Lloyd was top twenty here last year, and will measure his abilities to run with the lead pack.  9:37.07 for 3200 as a best in track last spring.

8. *Greg Drosky (Las Lomas, Walnut Creek-NCS) Section champ in the Bay area, Drosky was just over 16 minutes here in the Clovis Invitational, and seems to be peaking nicely!  Greg is a 9:32.96 3200 runner in track.

9. -Matt Snyder (St. Ignatius, San Francisco-CCS) Fifteenth at this level last year, Matt was third in the CCS Finals as part of a talented group at this level from that area.

10. -Carlos Perez (Barstow-SS) Team leader as the desert powerhouse makes its usual strong stretch run as the season winds down to the championships!  Seventeenth at this level last year, would not surprise if he moved up more than a few spots in trying to help bring his squad the team title.

Girls Division III

1. -Sarah Cummings (Corona del Mar, Newport Beach-SS) - Leader of one of the nation's top teams, Sarah hopes to lead her team to another big win here with a "runaway" win, as she has pulled off locally lately.  Twenty-second here last year she raced 10:44.52 for two miles in track.

2. *Allison Damon (Corona del Mar, Newport Beach-SS) - They come in waves for Coach Bill Sumner at Corona del Mar, with this junior the "heir apparent" to Anne St. Geme and Sarah above as divisional titlests!  Eighth here last year, Damon was second last week in the Southern Section meet, and like her teammates will not be letting down a bit in looking over their shoulders at an Oak Park group that gave the CdM squad a good run last weekend in the area title meet.  2:17.35 best for 800m in the spring track season.

3. **Katy Daly (St. Ignatius, San Francsico-CCS) - Ninth here last year, the tough CCS Champion emerged a strong winner over those from her area in that title contest a few weeks back.  Katy was 5:02.00 for 1600m last spring in track.

4. -Katherine Nielsen (Irvine-SS) - Solid Orange County star, third in the Southern Section finals, who is the latest top runner out of the Irvine HS program that has had a ton in recent years for Coach Randy Rossi.   Katherine ran 11:04.54 for 3200m last spring in track.

5. *Hillary Kigar (El Camino, Sacramento-SJ) - One of our favorites showed up to run and ended in the hosptial at the Sac Joaquin title run after squeezing in to the field here!  We trust she will be back in style, with some very good races this season, including an excellent 18:19 at the Stanford Invitational.  Hilary had a best of 10:59.38 for 3200m in the spring track season.

6. *Laurie Finnegan (Campolindo, Moraga-NCS) - A comfortable area champion, eighteenth here last year, and sub 19 at Stanford seem to set the star from the traditional power up for a great effort here.   Laurie had an 11:22.37 3200 best in the spring track season.

7. -Jenni Eiremo (El Camino, Sacramento-SJ) - Super section Finals run for the Sac Joaquin title in that very competitive area.  Taller half of the El Camino duo, she and Kigar hope to work their way up through the pack to some heavy hardware here.  Jenni is a quick 2:14.19 800m runner in track.

8. *Taylor Johnson (San Lorenzo Valley, Felton-CCS) - Should do a great job of representing one of the state's fine programs at SLV, a rare non-team qualifier this go-round.  Runner-up to Daly in the CCS, Johnson had a fine 18:34 run at the Stanford Invitational in September.  Fine track runner with 4:57.01 1600 and 10:50.1 3200 bests.

9. -Rocio Pelayo (Bolsa Grande, Garden Grove-SS) - Tough Orange County star was at home with stars from her area places 1-4 last week at the Southern Section Division III last week, and she in the fourth spot there at 18:39 on the Mt. SAC facility.  10:53.25 3200 in track for quality there also.

10. **Samantha Silva (Our Lady of Peace-SD) - Area champ by 150 meters, has shown the ability on the clock to race with the top ten here.   Samantha ran 11:10.70 for 3200m last spring during track season.
