BOYS 4X100 RELAY (4 HEATS - WINNERS PLUS NEXT 5 FASTEST ADVANCE)
Heat 1: A little bit of creative order placement was put in play by Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks) coach Joe McNab as speedburner Rodney Glass ran on Leg 2 for the Knights and his brisk carry drew the Knights into the lead, with Garrett Green then running the turn masterfully to extend the lead further on their way to victory.
Heat 2: Utilizing Courtney Williams and David Gettis (anchor) on the straightaways, the Dons stitched together a series of safety passes is posting its 41.51 heat-winning time.

GIRLS 1600M
Heat 1: Definitely a tad conservative pace at the start, with the entire pack bunched as they came across at 38.2 (200m) and 75.3 (400m), with Oak Ridge's Alex Kosinski then taking over the leading chores and no one willing to challenge the Sac Joaquin star as she further slowed the pace to a 77.8 for the next 400 as they came across in 2:33.1 at the halfway point. Kosinsk then dropped a 73.6 to begin stringing out the pack. Kosinski kept the lead through 1450, with Serrano HS super frosh Kauren Tarver then unleading a nice burst of speed down the homestretch to win in 4:55.70, with Kosinski holding on for second in 4:56.20

Heat 2: With no one seemingly eager to challenger her, Corona del Mar's Annie St. Geme led almost wire to wire, with a fine effort sealed wth a nice kick over the last 250 meters.
QUALIFIERS: Annie St. Geme (CdM) 4:55.31; Kauren Tarver (Serrano) 4:55.70; Alex Kosinski (Oak Ridge) 4:56.20, Alicia Follmar (Saratoga) 4:56.74; Ari Wright Bishop o'Dowd) 4:57.16; Erin Lewis (Modesto) 4:57.24; Danielle Dominicelli (Oak Ridge)`4:58.38; Anna Sperry (Simi Valley) 4:59.57; Alison Keilty (West Torrance) 5:00.1.

BOYS 1600M
Heat 1: With 6 of the top 9 times in the state seeded in this heat, it figured the competitive edge for the at-large berths would be favored to come from here. Franklin of Elk Grove (SJS) junio Marlon Patterso brought the crew around in a pedestrian 65.1, with El Camino of Oceanside 11th grader A.J. Acosta then taking the lead an upping the tempo in splitting 2:12.5 and 3:13.8 as Loyola's Mark Matusak moved up from 7th to 3rd. Matusak appeared very under control here, throwing 9 looks behind him down the last homestretch an easing past Acosta for the win in 4:13.09.
Heat 2: Cabrillo junior Michael Coe took it upon himself to do the work here, splitting 60.9-2:07.5-3:09.3 (60.9-66.6-61.8), with Edison (Huntington Beach) senior Joe Gatel then flashing his usual fine closing speed with a 28.9 close and something still left while getting the heat win in 4:11.79.

GIRLS 100M HIGH HURDLES
Heat 1: Serra's Kimyon Broom reacted well to the gun and was the leader early, with Long Beach Wilson's Deana Carson having definite sunlight between her and third with three flights left.
Heat 2: In the first go at it, Mt. Pleasant frosh Vashti Thomas was flagged for a false start and was disqualified from the event. On the re-start, Diamond Ranch's Leslie Mercado reacted impressively to the gun from lane 5 and was in the lead by the first flight of hurdles, with Merrill West's Shevell Quinley about a half-stride behind most of the way while running in Lane 6. Mercado exploded well off the lst hurdle to open a gap on Quinly and win in 13.80 with a +2.2 mps wind
Heat 3: Benicia senior Falesha Ankton was out well and seemingly in control down the stretch but then appeared to have her spikes catch and disrupt her rhythm as the SJS standout then clubbed the next-to-last hurdler and watched almost helplessly as four competitors sped right on by.

BOYS 110M HIGH HURDLES
Heat 1: Buhach Colony's Val Dai'Re, perhaps the most impoved high hurdler in the state in recent weeks, looked very smooth and efficient throughout, sneaking away in a win lega (+1.1) 14.14.
Heat 2:
Southern Section Masters champion Robert Williams overcame a sloppy start (appeared be no better than fourth after the first few strides) to close well and earn the automaic berth.
Heat 3: Versatile sensation David Klech (California) was left in the blocks in Lane 5, but needed only two flights of hurdles to erase the deficit and then kept his poise in ending off a fine challenge from Diamond Ranch's Terry Prentice to win in a wind legal (+0.4) 13.94, the #8 time in the nation this year and a lifetime best for Klech!

GIRLS 400 METERS
Heat 1: Sa'de Williams (Rancho Cucamonga) paced herself to a 54.08 win, with Janie James (Helix, La Mesa) showing spirit in her 54.92 for second.
Heat 2: Solid Shakara Lott rolled to a 54.84 win with Tifney Reeve (Capistrano Valley, Mission Viejo) continuing her fine season with a 55.32 for the second qualifier out of this contest.
Heat 3: Myra Hasson (Gardena) lone qualifier out of this contest, racing 54.82 for the win, with Lorraine King (North, Riverside) not fast enough with her 56.05 in second.
Heat 4: Nicole Stone (Rancho Cucamonga) made it two wins for her school with a 55.09 win over Chauncey David-Jacobs (Burton, San Francisco) 55.21, with Amber Purvis (Benicia) sitting way back to move up to a non-qualifying third at 56.28.

BOYS 400 METERS
Heat 1: David Gettis (Dorsey, LA) ran a well-paced 47.13 winning effort, and dragged Michael Johnson (Lincoln, Stockton) 47.59 and soph Nevin Gutierrez (North, Riverside) 47.68 to fine clockings, with the Dorsey Don looking like there's a lot left in the tank!!!
Heat 2: Bryshon Nellum (Poly, LB) let Zach Chandy (Sage Hill) take it out, then slowly reeled the fellow Southern Sectioner in, cruising to a 48.14 -48.50 win.
Heat 3:
Very good heat had sub-48 stars Elijah Wells (Taft, Woodland Hills), Donald Sanford (Morningside, Inglewood), and Courtney Williams (Dorsey), with the trio finishing in that order at 47.64-48.00 - 48.02, all qualifying on to what should be a super 400 final!

GIRLS 100 METERS
Heat 1: Khrystal Carter (Valley Christian, San Jose) blazed away from a very, very respectable field to a super 11.63 clocking (wind +0.7). Claremont's Kristin Holmes was second at 12.00.
Heat 2: Elizabeth Olear (Louisville, Woodland Hills) continues to look better and better this outdoor season, with the powerful junior edging away from a very good group, winning 11.65 (wind +0.9) over Vallejo's Samantha Tansil 11.91 and frosh Yasmine Woodruff (St. Mary's Academy, Inglewood), who was 11.94 to qualify but the SS champ did not look sharp.
Heat 3:
Kristina Davis (Logan, Union City) looked super in fighting off Ebony Collins (Wilson, Long Beach), with the duo clocking great 11.58 (wind 0) - 11.63 times!! What a final coming up!!

BOYS 100 METERS
Heat 1: Rodney Glass (Notre Dame, Sherman Oaks) set the tone with a smooth, powerful 10.43 win here!! (wind +1.5).
Heat 2: It was American sprint legend Carl Lewis whose coach (Tom Tellez) said sprinting is the simplest of events, all about "staying relaxed in letting the speed come out." If one has seen Taft' Jamere Holland this spring, relaxation is his trademark. Holland wheeled out of the blocks quickly, then fluttered down the straightaway en route to a nation-leading 10.38!
Heat 3:
Wow! What a contest!! Five within .08. Across the track Devin Mays (Lincoln, Stockton), Brandon Smith (West, Bak) , Dax Danns (Helix, La Mesa), and Travon Patterson (LB Poly) battled, with Marquise Charles (Dorsey) zooming up quickly and late on the inside. Get that photo-timer out, with Patterson a 10.60-10.60 winner over Charles - Danns 10.64, Mays 10.66, and Smith 10.68 also qualified to fill over half the finals!!

GIRLS 800 METERS
Heat 1: Alicia Follmar's strength (Saratoga) won out in Heat 1, as she ran to a victory down the homestrech over Haley Lawrence (Aliso Niguel, Aliso Viejo-SS) 2:12.05-2:12.91.
Heat 2: Kauren Tarver (Serrano, Phelan) continues to amaze, here running down talented Libby Jenke (Menlo) in the final 50m 2:11.21-2:11.33. Injured a good part of the spring, one expects the young high desert star to step in a phone booth and come out with an "S" on her chest, or does she have that already from her school!!! Anyway, young Kauren, a frosh, continues to amaze.
Heat 3: This amazing event had another exciting heat that featured a group stars going at it desperately, with a tad of a surprising winner. Christine Whalen (Mitty, San Jose) came up to early quick leader Kate Grace (Marlborough, LA) during the last half-lap, with one expecting Whalen to race away, but down the homestretch, the soph Grace gutted it out and was the 2:12.05-2:13.23 winner.
Heat 4: A race where the group deserved credit for pushing the pace, and a couple of suprise qualifiers emerged! Jami Hardy (Logan, Union City) pushed it early, with Christine Jones (Live Oak) trying to stay ahead of a pack that pushed the entire second lap, Jones taking the guaranteed spot at 2:12.20, with Lea Wallace (Vintage) 2:12.47 and Dominique Jackson (Fairfield) 2:12.75 also moving on!!

BOYS 800 METER
Heat 1: Marina star Tony Guadagnini used a simple tactic here, eventually get to the front and don't give up the lead - you are guaranteed to go to the finals if that works!! Randy Pensinger (El Camino) and Buddy Rogers (Rialto) challenged over the last half lap, with the San Diegan earning the second spot to the finals with his 1:55.36.
Heat 2: Westlake sophomore Cory Primm appeared to be the one darting into the lead at 300 meters, but the usually frontrunning Travis Bradford threw a sudden surge to emerge as the one-lap leader in 57.1. Bradford and Primm each threw down additional spurts over the lst 400m , with Bradford winning the physical and psychological tug-of-war.
Heat 3:
San Pasqual's Jesse O'Brien bolted into the lead late in the first, then answered a challenge on the backstretch before keeping state leader Colin Campbell (out conservatively and closing well) at bay.

GIRS 300 METER LOW HURDLES
Heat 1: Ebony Collins really came to run, putting herself way, way, way out there in front of the pack through 200m, looking like she was on her way to one of the finest prep long hurdle races ever!! A bit of hesitation at the last hurdle probably held her back from a soph class record (40.44 held by fellow LB Wilson star Lashinda Demus) - oh yeah, Ebony ran 40.80!!
Heat 2: Jamesha Youngblood (Hercules) put together a solid race on the way to a 42.93-43.37 win over Falesha Ankton (Benicia), Ankton showing some heart in coming back from disappointment in the 100m barrier event when she clobbered a late hurdle.
Heat 3: Shevell Quinley (West, Tracy) looked really smooth, cruising to a 42.11 win over Kiani Profit (Muir) 43.40, with West potentially adding up a lot of points tomorrow (Wilson/West match-up here with Collins/Quinley tomorrow!!)

BOYS 300 METER INTERMEDIATE HURDLES
Heat 1: State leader David Klech ran a very clean race through the first five flights, 14-stepping his way between the barriers and catching the hurdle at just the right sync. Klech appeared to slow dramatically to aproaching t
Heat 2:
Heat 3: Very unfortunate development here as late-race leader Buhach Colony's Val Dai'Re clipped the seventh hurdle hard in Lane 5, falling down and causing the hurdle to skip hard into the Lane 6, subsequently knocking Garrett's Green's hurdle of position and causin Green to fall as well, with several other hurdlers racing by. Appeal appears be in motion.

GIRLS 200 METERS
Heat 1: Sa'de Wiliams (Rancho Cucamonga) cranked a consistent, steady race on the way to a 23.73 win (wind +1.6) that left a good pack at least a half second back!
Heat 2: Khrystal Carter (Valley Christian, San Jose) looks like she wants to prove she's the best sprinter in the state, here blazing away from strong Tiana Hood (Wilson, LB) on the way to a 23.87 (wind +0.5) - 24.38 win.
Heat 3: Khristine Davis (Logan, Union City) will have something to say about who's the best around, blazing a 23.80 win that also set some very legitimate claims down!! Tomorrow will be fun!!

Heat 4: Elizabeth Olear (Louisville, Woodland Hills) will be in the hunt, with the junior looking back on top of her act, healthy and powerful, cruising a 23.89 (wind +0.5) and showed she will be a factor tomorrow also!!

BOYS 200 METERS
Heat 1: Wes Williams (Esperanza) really came to run, cranking the turn against some top folks and never looking back - his 21.29 win (wind +0.5) looked eased off a tad at the end.
Heat 2: Bryshon Nellum (LB Poly) fought off Joe Turner (Edison, Fresno) and romped to a fine 21.30 win (wind +0.6)
Heat 3: Yikes!! Jamere Holland rocketed out past fine sprinter Devin Mays, and absolutely cruised the hometstretch to crank a 20.92 that left the crowd gasping!!!
