400m Relay - The battle for team supreamacy would start here. Kenny O'Neal had helped Skyline blaze 41.14 yesterday, with LB Poly (41.12 seasonal best) inside of Skyline (lane 5) in lane 4. The long two days of racing for a lot of athletes would enter its second half here. Gettis fell at the end of the first leg for Dorsey (later explaining he was banged into by the team in lane 3 at the first exchange), with Skyline a very strong opening leg, and Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks) lane 3 out ahead of LB Poly into leg 3. Skyline came into the anchor ahead, with Kenny O'Neal and Derrick Jones (LB Poly) anchors racing away ahead of the pack. O'Neal 9.3 on the anchor with a running start, with Jones looking sharp also! Skyline appearing 40.90's in front. 40.95 Skyline - 41.40 - LB Poly - Taft 41.71 .

1600 Meters - very good group all were under 4:19 in qualifying, with Brandon Bethke of El Toro's domination of late in the south of concern to all. Calvin Glass (Woodcreek) came from program known for super peaks, with AJ Acosta a 4:12 soph from El Camino (Oceanside) in San Diego section. Mark Matusak (Loyola) was coming back from mid-season injury, so we think you get the message--it would be good!! Pedstrian early pace (16.0) first 100m with Brett Campfield (Temeucla Valley) the leader. 33.9 at the 200 had all close. Campfield conitnued to lead with Glass prancing outside of him. 68.2 at the 400 had the pack quicken, with Carey Matthews (De la Salle) moving into the lead. The 600 had lost no one at 1:42.0 (4:32 1600 pace). Calvin Glass led into the 800, with Bryan Anderson (Menlo) almost being tripped, then moving into the lead at 2:15.0. Anderson was 32.5 at 2:47.5 for 1000m, with Bethke poised in second. Brandon lost patience around the turn, with he and Matusak down the homestretch racing along (30.0 that 200 to 3:17.5 at the 1200). Brandon and Mark charged down the backstretch, with Matthews third at the 1400 mark (3:46.2 for the two leaders). 4:00.6 at 1500m, with Mark Matusak surprisngly powering by on by and racing to a 4:15.7 or so winner. 4:15.89 - 4:17.15 Bethke - 4:19.55 Matthews - Glass 4:19.59. Matusak and Bethe raced 14.4 around the final turn, then was 15.2 for Mark for the final 100m run-in.

Boys 110mHH

Kevin Craddock (Logan) helped to hope lead his team to victory starting here while his teammates started in the Triple Jump across the track! Craddock was 13.53w in the Trials, with Marquis Profit (Muir) 13.98 wind legal for a PR in winning his heat. The roar from the crowd after Nkosinza Balumbu (Logan) jumped 50-01 in the TJ had the starter call the field up. Quick gun had Craddock out even with the group, but steadily pulling away after hurdle #2 to a huge 5m win. 1.7 legal win 13.39 California All-time best, and obvious state meet record and depending upon how Ted Ginn in Ohio did today (the Arcadia Invite star from Ohio back in April had a 13.26w in the heats there #2 AT any conditions yesterday) could be the top time in the nation! Dynamite start to the meet! Craddock 13.39 - 13.86 for Profit in second. Barmer Helix 14.03 in third, Kai Kelly 4th at 14.08, and James Maynard of Stagg 5th 15 14.19. The 13.39 makes him the #6 Auto-Timed performer in US prep history.

300m Hurdles

Nail could go in the coffin here on the team title for any other squads, with Logan at 26, Skyline 20, Arroyo Grande 16, Dorsey 14, with Poly tied for 5th at 10. A Craddock win here would make it very tough, and he was hot this day after a 13.39 HH win. Craddock off to the races - 5.7-3.7 - 3.9 - 4.0 - 4.3 - 4.3 - 4.2 - 4.7 - 1.3 run in for 35.93 clocking!! It appeared he may have 13-stepped the entire way. Nation-Leading mark during a magical day for the Logan junior!! Appeared Marquis Profit the second placer a ways back. Appeared Terry Prentice (Diamond Ranch) just missed the national auto-timed frosh record with his 37.75 in 5th.

3200m

Patrick Parsel (Carmel) led through a 30.6 opening 200, with Yosef Ghebray and Babey Wagnew loping along together into the lead through a 65.5 400 and 1:40.2 600. 2:14.6 had the loping duo of African heritage out in front, with Ghebray on the inside, and the green uniform-topped Wagnew on the outside. Jeremy Mineau (Menlo Atherton) was third at 1000m at 2:49.4, with a 3:23.8 at the 1200 having Ghebray move slightly ahead, pushing things a tad. Mineau and Fitsum Tesfa (Don Lugo) were third and fourth, with Andrew Tachias (Covina) and Scott Bauhs (San Ramon Valley) up with the front group. 4:32.8 was the 1600 split. A 34.0 200 after the 1600 left the pack a tad, with Bauhs now into second. Ghebray interested in pushing it, with a 15m lead at the 5 lap point at 5:40.6 (67.9 that lap). Ghebray continued to move with Bauhs leaving the rest of the pack in second (Wagnew in third some 20m back). Ghebray looked good with a 34.4 first 200 on lap 6. Bauhs fought to get close, with Wagnew and the rest fading a bit behind. back. 6:49.6 at the end of six laps. Ghebray looked full of run at six and a half laps. with the possibility of a team title certainly providing moptivation. 7:58 with one to go and a 25 meter lead. At 8:30.3 Ghebray was very clear of all, with the loping Logan junior rolling in at 9:04, with hopefully some more competition this summer at this or longer distances.

Long Jump
Group jumped into the wind for the prelims, with National leader Rashaad Nunnally (Sheldon, Elk Grove) 24-11.5 showing up with a bad ankle and having a foul and two passes. CCS star Joel Tuosto (Greenfield), a 24-footer was another casualty, but a good group moved on, with Demitri Mosby (Gahr) 23-06 (into -2.2 mps wind) leading. Mosby led the first round at 23-02.5. Crenshaw was out to 23-04.75 on his second jump (#3 in the order), with Chauncey Rampersant (Wheatland) 23-02.75 on that round Moosby finished off the second round with a crooked landing in the pit, but a 24-00 .25 (wind -1.9) measurement to take the lead. Mosby passed round 3 in the lead, and with no one past 22-06 on the fourth round into what it appeared a slight wind Mosby took a good fourth jump that was 23-04. No siginficant efforts in the Finals, with Mosby lining up with the event won and he powered a 24-03.75 (wind +0.7) effort to finish out a super weekend for the Gahr senior. Event ended at 3:51. Fractions missed on the results board on the field, Mosby 24-03.75 for the win (wind surprisingly +0.7 on the winning effort).

Triple Jump
Logan big points here needed for their team title hunt! Angelo Jeffery took three jumps and led qualifying at 49-05.5w (+2.3), with Nkosinza Balumbu (Logan) 48-11.5w on his second effort for third in the qualifying, not taking his final effort on Friday. 49-footer Michael Johnson (Rancho Cucamonga) looked good at 48-10.75w (+2.9) on his first jump before shutting it down. Joel Tusto (Greenfield) 48-09.5 CCS leader non-qualifier here with three fouls. The team aspect should inspire a good competition here.

Michael Johnson (Rancho Cucampona) cranked it up at 50-00 early and the Logan crowd was psyched! There was such a big roar that the starter called them up from the blocks in the Highs.

Discus
Daniel Schaerer (Bishops, La Jolla) looked sharp with a 204-00 second toss (63.18 meters). For some reason the results were put in metrics only and his lead-off toss was just short of 200 feet at 60.40. Matt Gray (Esperanza) let it out with a lifetime best of 200-09 on his third throw in the Prelims, with 177-00 to make the finals. Good competition assured!!

400 Meter Relay - LB Poly in 6 46.01 yesterday, Logan in 5 (45.91 Friday), with Rancho Cucamonga (46.55 in lane 4) and merrill West (46.66 Friday in 7). JW North (46.86) and El Camino (Oceanside) (46.99) also under the quality 47.0 figure in Friday's action - super group toed the starting line.

Logan definite lead after leg 1, with we believe Jasmine Lee smoking the backstretch to bring LB Poly even at the last exchange. Poly headed into the anchor leg with a meter or two lead, with a super hand-off sending Shalonda Solomon down the track during her 10.4 leg to a 45.11 win over Logan's 45.53. 46.36 West - RC 46.84 -

Girls 1600m

Super group led by defending champ Alicia Follmar (Saratoga), who did not look that good on Friday, and a flock of other flyers!! Allen and St. Geme out in 16.3. 34.4 as the tempo logged a bit the second 100m of the first lap. Follmar already falling back in her red, third from the end. 70.1 had the same duo leading, with the field strung out a bit. Kingma (SLO) and Natalie Pischetti (Rancho Cucamonga) behind a tad. 1:46.2 had seven very close, still behind Allen. Follmar had worked her way up to fifth, but the head motions seemed to indicate all was not right. Amazingly, Follmar moved up to challenge at the 800. 2:23.3 at the two lap point had six close, with Olga Aulet-Leon (Peninsula) losing contact. Allen continued to lead, 1000m at 3:00.40. Allen pushed things a tad there, with Lauren Mulkey (Woodcreek) along and Pasciuto next, with 4m to Follmar at the 500m to go point. with 1 to go at 3:36.3 1200m, Allen led over Mulkey, with Pasciuto third and Follmar fourth. Amazingly, Follmar worked her way up, then at 4:29.0 (1500m point) Mulkey, Allen, and Follmar were even across the track, with the red clad Follmar working by at the finish to win at 4:46.5. Allen fell some 30m from the finish, and she appeared to get up and finish fourth. Tremendously exicting last half lap!!! Follmar 4:46.47 - Mulkey 4:47.17 - Pasciuto 4:51.25 - Kirschmann 4:52.81

Lee out early with 12.7 opening 100m with definite lead. at 25.3 Lawrence had worked close, with Myra Hasson on the outside in the hunt! Lee drove the third 100 very strong, coming through the 300 at 38.5. The LB Poly star, helping to hope lead her team to the title, looked strong with a powerful arm drive down the homestretch to a comfortable win. Lee 52.93 the winner - Lawrence 53.68 - Hassan 54.29 - Dudley 54.66

100 Meters - another classic group with the southern battles lately between Jasmine Baldwin (Bishop Amat) and Shalonda Solmon (LB Poly). Kristina Davis (Logan) in lane 9 fell out of the blocks and was disqualified. Shalonda Solomon had a good start, but over the final 60m it was Baldwin, with another drive like the one that took her to wins last week, driving up and past to an 11.33 to 11.41 win over Shalonda. If wind legal the 11.33 is =#11 All-Time and Jasmine would be the co-national leader for the year.

800 Meters

Another super event this evening. Libby Jenke (Menlo out well), with the pack followiing the quick early lead. 30.0 at the 200 with all close by. Christine Whalen led through the 400k with Jenke next and Esperanza's Emily Dunn close at 63.8. Casie Atkinson (El Capitan, Lakeside) went at the 400, moving out to a 5m lead into the 600 at 1:37.0. Jenke moved up, but it was Alicia Johnson (Canyon, CC) moving who blazed the final 150m, racing to a huge win at 2:08.97. #6 time nation for the year. A good cross-country runner who played soccer for a good prep team this winter, Johnson looks like a real talent at the next level for UC Berkeley.

300M Hurdles - National leader and frosh US Record holder Ebony Collins (Wilson, Long Beach) 40.81 was in lane 6, with Talia Stewart (Logan 41.64), hot off a 13.31 was inside of her in 5, with DaShanta Harris (Poly) 41.61 and Shana Woods (LB Poly) 41.74. Collins was out very hard, with Talia Stewart, on that "Logan hurdler's High" for the day, bursting by on the turn. At Hurdle #7 Stewart hesitated a tad, but Collins did herself also, and the Logan star raced in to a 41.31 win, the #2 prep time in the nation for the year behind Collins.

200m Dash

Great rivalry of Baldwin and Solomon continued here. Baldwin in 6, Solomon in 5. Solomon worked her way up into the straightaway to a few inch lead at 11.5 past the 100m starting line. Down the stretch they battled, with Baldwin holding her form once again to move up and barely by at the finish to win 22.86 - 22.92 (try the winner #4 All-Time US Prep) - Allyson Felix 22.11 A - Marion Jones 22.58 - Chandra Cheesborough (Florida) from 1975 22.77. Solomon was #7 AT US at 22.93 and she moved up a hundredth in the same position. Wind legal +1.2 mps - absolutely amazing!!!

3200m -

Potentially a super group with the weather not too bad for good running. After a 35.1 opening 200 it was Natasha LaBeaud (Folsom) who moved up in blue to lead at 73.7 at the 400 with about a 20m lead. Lindsay Flacks (Harvard-Westlake) fell at about 320m and worked her way back up to the pack. The margin spread at the end of the first lap with Clovis's Krystal Duke second through a 1:52.7 600. 2:31.6 for two laps had five seconds up on the field, with Rethemeier leading the next group. 40.7 for the first 200 of lap 3 had 3:12.3 at the 1000m point. 3:51.8 at the 1200 had five seconds up on the pack. A 40.8 still had a significant lead over the Rethmeier led group, with the athletes wearing hip numbers different than the program passed out, with us able to pick out Lindsay Flacks in the next group, surprisng after her fall. La Beaud was 5:12.1, with Rethmeier 5:16 in second, and Flacks close in third. 40.3 for the leader at the first half of lap 5, with the duo of Rethmeier and Flacks slowly reining her in. 6:32.8 had a 15 meter lead. Lauren Magdaleno (St. Paul) and Liza Pasciuto (Murrieta Valley) ran 4-5 35m back. With 1000m to go, Flacks moved up on Natasha's shoulder, with Rethmeier 3m back. 7:53.6 with two to go. Flacks led as they ran the first half of the 7th lap at 38.8 and left LaBeaud behind. Flacks led Rethmeier by a meter or two down the homestretch with 500m to go. 9:10.6 with one to go, Flacks working very, very hard. Rethmeier worked her way up by the middle of the backstretch, with Flacks determined to not to let her by, and after a 9:48.7 at 3000m she raced away to the win at the high 10:25's. Great race with special determination by Flacks (remember she fell on the first lap), who seemed to have the rhythm to the wall the last few laps, and fought off the defending champ, Rethmeier when the going got tough down the backstretch of the last lap. Another great race!!

Harris was 55.6 for Poly through two legs, with Jasmine Lee moving up and past with a 52.6 effort. Logan was 54.4 for leg #3, with Shalonda Solomon and Talia Stewart down the backstretch together. Solomon upped the ante with 150m to go, racing to a 51.6 leg and coming in at 3:35.49, a National Record for the Jackrabbits. Logan deserves a ton of credit, with usually a team pushing someone to record land.

High Jump

Eight folks went 5-7 to qualify for the finals, with Danielle St. John (Oakdale) winning a jump-off to move on in the ninth spot. Of the State's 5-08 of higher jumpers, seven moved on. Desirae Gonder (Stockdale) and Mindi Wiley (Sonoma Valley) were over 5-10 this year, with Gonder a surprisingly short athlete for what she has cleared! The event ended suddenty at 3:47 in front of the sparse crowd.
Finals had consistent Jasmin Day of Costa Mesa and surprisingly, Mindi Wiley, out after clearing 5-05. The rest were over 5-07, with Danielle St. John (Oakdale) ending 7th at 5-07, Khristina Curtis (Tustin) and Jamie Klages (Coronado) tied for 5th with that 5-07 bests. Four went after 5-08--Amber Kaufman (Branham), frosh Susan Jackson (Napa), Desirae Gonder (Stockdale), and Allie Miller (Los Altos). Interestingly, it was the talented heptathlete all-arounder Miller who PR'd with a 5-09.25 clearance to take it all, when those with some better marks could not get over that height.

Pole Vault
11-08 to move on here, without 12-07 jumper Kristen Domanen (Temecula Valley). SS stars Allison Stokke, Monica Pacas, Tori Pena, and Jannae Bennett were all over 12-00 on Friday. The bar moved up quickly over 40 minutes to 12-04, with Kate Matoon (Rancho Bernardo), Monica Pacas (Atascadero), and super frosh Allison Stokke (Newport Harbor) jumping there. All three missed at their first attempts there. Pacas cleared on her second attempt, with the first miss at 12-04 her first of the competition. Matoon missed three times, with Stokke clearing on her second attempt, and the bar went to 12-08. Pacas had a good first effort, a miss, with Stokke a National Frosh record with a 12-08 first effort clearance. One would have thought Pacas would have passed to the next height, but she lined up for her second attempt at 12-08. She snaked over, and earned three shots at 13-00 instead of 2, with the 12-08 a PR for the season. Monica had a couple of good attempts at 12-11.75, with Stokke close on her final effort, showing the ability to clear that height very soon. Event ended at 4:12.

Junior Shelese Ruffin (Beaumont) surprised with a 20-02.25w (+3.9) second effort, with Brittany Daniels a 20-00.25w (+2.9) lead off effort that held up for second. Gayle Hunter was 19-11.75w (+2.2), with a good nine person field needing 18-08.5 to move on. Ruffin appeared the leader after round one at 18-10, with Daniels a foul and Gayle Hunter 18-09. Woods a big foul on her second jump, with Hunter a good pop that measured 19-08.75 to up the ante. Ruffin a fair jump on round 2 that looked good and was 18-10 at measurement. DeAna Carson (Wilson, LB) moved into second on the third round at 19-00.75, with Woods responding to her city rival witha 20-01.25 on the next effort to challenge all! Hunter was 19-02.5. Brittany Daniels took off a full foot and a half behind the board after two fouls on her third jump, with the mark measuring 17-02.25. Daniels led off the Finals with an 18-11.75 effort, with Daniels appearing over 20 feet (20-01 actually) on her final effort at the top of the sixth round. Danielle Watson (Carson) took a bad spill in the pit on her final effort, and sat along side the pit for a time. The judge held on for a minute on Hunter's final jump before raising the white flag, and Gayle did not look too happy, with a 20-00.5 measurement. Woods was 20-07.75 her final effort, a personal best which probably was wind-legal, and the =#2 mark in the nation for the year. Event ended 4:04.
