under ideal conditions at the recent Desert Valleys League Finals!

The championship meet was held at La Quinta High School, and it was about 77 Degrees. The course was a little longer than last year due to a detour because of construction, making it 3.056 miles instead of 3.0. On the boys side, the battle for champion came down to Indio vs. Coachella Valley, with CV stepping it up to take the crown. CV's boys ran tough when it counted, and look to move up in CIF. On the Individual side of things it was a two man race. Indio's Joel Cota pretty much led thoughout, but was challenged by a strong race from senior Nelson Maravilla of Desert Hot Springs. Junior Carlos Ventura of CV ran an awesome race to take 3rd.

On the girl's side of things, most teams had a few problems, which led to a logjam for 3rd. Indio's girls team is very strong, and had no problem with the competiton. Coachella Valley, Cathedral City, Desert Hot Springs, and Palm Desert all battled it out through injuries and illness. Coachella held on to second with 89 points, but DHS, CC, and PD were really close. Desert Hot Springs snuck into CIF for the first time in their history with a 6th person tiebreaker over Cathedral City at 100 points. Palm Desert just missed at 101 points. Individually, Indio's Denise Vega ran strong to defend her title over a solid performance from Palm Desert's Janie Gibbs.
