Varsity Boys
The race had a large lead pack hit the mile at 5:19-5:21. It contained
Hughson's top 5, Riverbank's top 5, Escalon's top 3, and a Livingston
runner. Escalon's Mark Backovich had about a 20 yard lead over the main
pack and was at 5:16. By the second mile, Backovich had extended his lead
slightly, while David McKay of Hughson began to give chase. Alex Nabors
and
Mike Searway of Riverbank held down 3rd and 4th. By the finish, McKay
had
caught Backovich, who held off a hard charging Searway, Nabors, and Martin
Ramos of Hughson.
The times were a bit slower than the TVL has seen in recent years, because
the race was a pretty tactical one, with the top 6 finishers all within
10
seconds of eachother (most of that spread happened within the last 800).
Varsity Girls
Amanda Moreno shot out to an early lead and was never challenged on her
way
to a meet record time (for the course) of 19:29. The girls squad from
Riverbank was never challenged on the team side, as they packed their
top 6
in the top 7 early on. By the 2 mile mark, Kaitlin Fiecthner of Hughson
had
moved up to 6th overall, splitting the Riverbank pack, but gave back that
place in the final strides, which allowed Riverbank to score a super low,
20
points. With their top 5 girls running under 21 minutes.
Full results will be sent as soon as I recieve them.
