Bishop O'Dowd's Ariel Wright sprints out to an early lead at the start of the girls' race.
She and her trademark high black socks were the commanding winners of the race.

Girls’ Varsity

The Dragons of Bishop O’Dowd scorched the rest of the league today.
Sophomore Ariel Wright ran away with the race early, and would have run faster
had she not been misdirected by unofficial course monitors at the start of the
third mile. First-year coach Angelica Randall got her team fired up well.
Bolstered by veteran presence of Nani Boone who sat out last year, and 2002
HAAL champ Anna Purcell who is now back from injury, Bishop O’Dowd smothered
the rest of the league with a dual meet score. Corinne Yee of Moreau Catholic
provided the surprise performance of the meet with her solid second place finish.

Boys’ Varsity

Bishop O’Dowd made it a clean sweep by taking the boys’ title as well. The
1-2-3 finish by the Dragons made the race outcome moot early on. Chris Wong
of O’Dowd was the easy winner, shrugging off an early challenge by John Yano

of Castro Valley to post the individual win. First-year coach Dave Hubbell
somehow found a way to make the O’Dowd boys even more domnant in this race
than they had been all year in the dual meets.
