9/8/01 Knoxville, Tennessee

Pepsi-Knoxville Coaches Invitational

Results: Boys - Girls

Farragut dominates the boys and girls races.

From Sam Roberts

On a warm humid morning almost 600 runners gathered on the banks of the
Tennessee River to "enjoy" one of the fastest courses in Tennessee.

In the girls race a pack of three runners quickly separated at 1200 meters
with Jessica Jansen of Farragut, Jamie Demonia of Oak Ridge and Megan Cauble
of Knoxville West leading the way. At the half way point it was Jansen (last
years Knoxville City champ) and Cauble alone. With 1200 meters to go Cauble
took her first lead and pushed through the turns to open a 30 meter gap that
would only grow over the return push. The win was Cauble's first ever Pepsi
All Comers victory. Jansen did lead her team to a solid win over rival Oak
Ridge, running without #1 runner DeAnna Kulesz (broken toe).

In the boys race Farragut and state AAA favorite Andy Baksa dominated!
Baksa, teammate Matt Stalker and Panther Creek winner Dusty Miller (Knoxville
West), led at the half way mark, running the first loop in 7:30/7:32. Before
reaching the two mile point Baksa surged and left everyone to struggle for
second. Baksa's time of 15:09 is an 11 second improvement over last week's
winning time on the same course.

Farraguts boys, #1 in Tennessee and #9 in the South in "The Harrier"
magazine was impressive placing 5 in the top 10 and 8 in the top 20.
