  • 5/16 Central Lakes Conference
The St. Cloud MN Times reports that two girls beat the current US#1 mark in pole vault Tuesday 5/16 at the Central Lakes Conference championship in Brainerd MN.
"Willmar sophomore Stacie Manuel qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials, which will be in July, with a first-place pole vault of 13 feet,1/2 inch. Sartell's sr Michelle Legatt was second with a 12-7 1/2."
Here is Minnesotan Kevin Hansen's rundown on the two girls:
"Michelle Legatt had cleared 11' 7" at Reno in the Summit, Stacie went 11'as a frosh last year. This spring they have dualed the HS record up from 11'3" in MN, both taking the crown just to lose it to the other the next week. Both may be in the mid 13's by June and our state meet.
Both had trained with my club Altitude with Attitude TC, in St. Cloud, MN last summer and fall/winter. Both are currently coached by vaulters who have worked with me and jumped for AATC or St. Cloud State University. Jed Bergstrom (SCSU All-American and pr 16'3"- a red-shirt this year ) coaches Michelle
Jon Heath (AATC and former hs vaulter has gone +15 on a 13' pole:-) coaches Stacie.
Maybe MN will become known for more than snow, hockey, and Super Bowl losses. :)
