3A Florida State Meet

Flagler Palm Coast jr doubles over Sanya Richards
in 54.15 MR and 24.99

by John Dye

Alycia Williams was "real nervous" when she pounded into mid-stretch of the 400 alongside Sanya Richards. She had never beaten the St. Thomas Aquinas star. But Alycia didn't show her nerves and it was Richards who faltered in the last strides as Williams stayed steady to the finish line to get not only a personal record, but a new state meet record (54.46 Shawonda Benjamin 2000).

Later, Williams came back in the 200 against Richards and won again for a terrific double.

She told Sharon Robb of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel she was pushing for the record but her hamstring was tight and "I couldn't get my right leg to come up."
