Boyd Anderson HS

Last race of the meet - state title on the line - top two teams going head to head.
Boyd Anderson 4x400 relay team beats Miami Central.

It's Glorious!

the Jeffersons and Atlantic Del Ray Beach HS

The graceful twins started their day in bright sunlight as they led Atlantic to a spectacular 7:37.76 victory in the 4x800 relay. They continued in twilight as John Jefferson won the 1600 meters, and finished under lights as Sean Jefferson won the 3200. This ends their Florida prep career, but they will try for post-season glory in June at the Golden West in Sacramento CA (Sean and John) and the adidas Outdoor Championships at Raleigh (Atlantic 4x800 and DMR relays). The Jeffersons will move north to Indiana University next year.

Atlantic's 4x800 relay team is truly number 1 - at least until the adidas Outdoor Championships next month in Raleigh, where Alan Webb's South Lakes VA team, champions of the Penn Relays, will be waiting.
John wins 1600. Even though he didn't get his double (3rd in 800), it was a very satisfying Florida finale.

Sean was pleased when announcer
said he went sub-9 in the 3200. Sean said the race went just as he wanted -- others took it out the first 1600 (4:34), Sean took control quickly on lap 5, and Sean won as he pleased in a negative split..

Dwight Ellick

Dwight Ellick completed an unusual double double. He was New York state 100 meter champion last year (10.83) and second in the 200 (21.63), and then his family moved to Florida. Now he is Florida champion and he did it in both the 100 and 200 with better times: 10.60 and 21.35. The Wharton Tampa senior has signed to play football at Notre Dame.

Xavier Carter

Palm Bay freshman Xavier Carter (right) overpowered a good 400 meter field in 46.95.
Next were Derrick Baker (middle) 47.11 and Glenn Sharpe (left) 47.26.

Paul Cross

Paul Cross of Flanagan (left) upset John Jefferson's hopes for a first ever 800-1600 state meet double by swinging wide in the stretch to win a tight 3-way finish that included Curtis McBride of Boyd Anderson (right). Cross 1:54.78, McBride 1:54.88, and Jefferson 1:55.01. Jefferson had trouble getting clear behind Cross' move.

Jason Stanley

South Plantation hurdle star enjoyed his win over Bershawn Jackson (left), 13.79 to 14.31.

Bershawn Jackson

US#1 and defending Florida 300 meter hurdle champion from Miami Central improved on both in a blistering 36.12 tour, breaking his own state meet record.

Stranahan HS

Stranahan 40.97 (center) joined a growing throng of sub-41 second
400 meter relay teams in the US this season.
