Mobile Meet of Champions

Day 1-- The Open Meet

Here we are, back in Mobile for another championship meet.  Back with great people, food and weather!

This is the 9th Meet of Champions in Mobile.  It's the brainchild of Steve Schoenewald who has taken this meet from a tri-county meet to a national meet of champions.  There are some 700 athletes in the Open Meet held at the U.M.S. Wright School grounds and about 200 athletes in the Invitational held at St. Paul's Episcopal School. 

Julie Hinton and Grandfather A.L. Hinton
Julie has to be the athlete who traveled the furthest.  Born in Mobile, she now lives in Nevada.  She's visiting Granddad in Tanner Williams, Alabama.

Laura is a Shot Putter and Discus Thrower from North Gwinnett, Georgia

The Nichols from Suwanee, Georgia came to cheer for daughter/sister Laura (From left: Ashley, Earl, LaJean).

Josh Walker with Mother, LaFrance and Dad, Jerry, from Stone Mountain, Georgia.  Josh is a top ranked athlete in hurdles--his main event.  He will be going to University of Florida next year on a full scholarship.  Congratulations to Josh and his lovely parents.

Kevin Fuller from Mobile
Kevin came to cheer on daughter Charity in the 300 high hurdles, his son and son's girlfriend.   Kevin was also on assignment with his video camera. Yeah Dad!

Nena is an around athlete participating in the 4x1, 100, 200
and long jump.

Gary Brown Mobile
Gary's job for the afternoon was to video tape and cheer for daughter Courtney, a sophomore at Murphy High.

John Dye and James Guthrie
James is an Alabama runner who also publishes the website,
Alabama High School Runner.
