California prep stars Ryan Hall, Anita Siraki and Angel Perkins enter the Open Division

With California having no official indoor season for high school track and field, this is almost an unofficial California state meet.  It is about the only chance for Cal preps to get good indoor competition without travelling to Idaho for Simplot or across the continent for the national indoor championships.   The track at the LA Sports Arena has been refurbished for this year's meet.

The meet will feature three California prep stars moving up to the Open Division against elite runners.  In the men's Open mile, Big Bear sr Ryan Hall, one of the triumvirate of HS boy superstar distance runners (Dathan Ritzenhein and Alan Webb), may try to be the first of his class to break the 4-minute mile barrier, which has not been penetrated by a prep runner since 1967 and never indoors.  He will be chasing Sidney Olympians Bernard Lagat and Jason Pyrah.  Hoover Glendale sr Anita Siraki national champion 2-miler last year, will test herself in the women's Open mile.   Finally, Gahr Cerritos jr Angel Perkins, runner-up to Monique Henderson in last year's all-time record 400 meters in the California state meet, is entered in the women's Open 500 yards.  Henderson is not entered in the LA Invitational.

The High School division is studded with DyeStat Elite and California state meet finalists from 2000.
