Maryland athletes revel in
beautiful new PG County Complex
Maryland athletes revelled in the beautiful new PG County Complex, stepping out the dark ages of the Baltimore Armory into the 21st century state of the art facility at Landover MD. The complex is next to FedEx Stadium, home of the Washington Redskins, and came from negotiations between the late Redskins owner Jack Kent Cooke and PG County officials for local infrastructure. It is called a complex because the track and soccer arena is only half of the building -- there is also a championship swimming facility, family swimming center, fitness center, gymnastics competition facility, and mat sports facility. The PG Sports Complex (how can we possibly use the complete title all the time?) will host the Maryland State Meet and the Nike Indoor Classic this season among many other events. Thursday night there was Maryland's major season kickoff event, the Pangaea Invitational, and appreciative athletes turned in some great early season performances.
