results from UIL
Rod Koborsi of Jersey Village HS won the 5A individual championship in 14:58, 22 seconds ahead of Steve Maddox of The Colony. The two left everybody from the gun and raced together through a mile in 4:49 and two miles in 9:38. Koborsi drew away from Maddox with 1000 meters to go. The team title went to The Woodlands 47, getting their 5th runner in before Kingwood's second. Times were slowed today about 5 secs by several mud/water spots on the course.
Class 3A winner Tyler Stanfield 15:44 was the only defending state champion to repeat, leading Canton to its 2nd title in 3 years. This follows their perfect score at the regional.
