10/9/00 at Roger Williams Park - 2.85 miles
Columbus Day InvitationalCold, Windy, Hilly Terrain Tremendous battle for the individual title with Smithfield senior Joe Parenteau, LaSalle senior Liam Butler, and St. Raphael junior Garrett Vaslet finishing within three seconds. Vaslet led the quartet that also included LaSalle senior Paul Simas throughout most of the race. At 2.5 miles, it was still Vaslet setting the pace, with Butler right with him and Parenteau about 2 seconds back. Turning the final corner with 200 meters left, Parenteau (5th-1999 States) charged into the lead with Butler (8th-1999 States) following close behind and the two dueled all the way to the finish, both timed in 14:48. It was an excellent finish featuring two of the top closers in the state, both of whom also earned top 5 finishes in the 1500 meters at last year's states for outdoor track. Team title easily won by LaSalle Academy placing 2,4,5,6,8 for 25 points. LaSalle was runner-up at the 1999 State Meet and a top contender for this year's crown as well. St. Raphael (7th-1999 States) and Smithfield (6th-1999 States) finished 2nd and 3rd, respectively. Team Scores - 1. LaSalle Academy - 25, 2. St. Raphael - 72, 3. Smithfield - 89, 4. Pilgrim - 156, 5. Cranston East - 162, 6. Hope - 203. Individual Results
