 The AA (largest division) teams were divided into two divisions, one being the Lewis Division and the other the Clark Division. Ten runners were entered in varsity competition and seven of them were scored. The course is measured at exactly three miles.

LEWIS DIVISION

David Vidal easily won the Lewis Division at the Helena Invitational. His time of 14:45 is just four seconds off the course record. David's first mile was a quick 4:29. The weather was perfect for running. The temperature was in the 40's but sunny. There wasn't any wind. The course is moderate in difficulty and is located at an elevation of about 4600 feet. Following Vidal across the line were two of his own teammates, Seth Watkins at 15:03 and Kurt Michels third at 15:06. The Flathead team easily won the Lewis Division boy's competition with a score of 58 points. BOYS

GIRLS

In the Lewis Division girls competition Flathead also came away with a team victory. Sophomore Andrea Foot from Flathead was the individual champion winning in 18:41. The next five Flathead runners were only 18 seconds apart. The top six Flathead girls were all under 20 minutes. Great Falls High missed four of their varsity runners who were playing a soccer match and did not get a team score. Great Falls is one of the favorites to win the state championship when they have all their runners on the course at the same time.

CLARK DIVISION

In the Clark Division Helena Capital was led across the finish line by Vance Twitchell who ranks up there with some of the best runners in the Northwest. Helena Capital easily won the boy's competition with a score of 73 points. BOYS

GIRLS

Heidi Lane from CMR continues to dominate the girl's competition. Heidi who is only a junior has been running in the high 17's and low 18's all season. CMR, who is the defending state champion from 1999 was defeated by Bozeman High School who appeared to have more depth seven deep.
