Spiked Shoe Invitational

State College PA
9/16/00

by Donna Dye

Cross Country enthusiasts have a great time at the Spiked Shoe Invitational held at Penn State for the last 22 years.  This year the weather challenged the high school girls as they started the race in a driving rain screaming down the course hoping the rain that felt like hail would stop. But the rain didn't keep the girls back. They did just fine. By the time the boys race started the sun was shining and the clouds were wispy. Warm coffee from the refreshment stand was a blessing for the fans.

a chorus of "No, No" up and down the starting line,
but didn't keep 283 girls from running 5000 meters
