Alicia Craig Joins the Elite

Wyoming jr Alicia Craig, whose dad is a real-life cowboy, lassoed the top prize in the FLO mile.  She joined the elite of girls distance runners in the US with an impressive double -- 2nd in the 2 Mile Friday night and 1st in the Mile Saturday night.   What did she do to recover during the day Saturday?  "I slept."

Craig gave a bow in the direction of Alejandra Barrientos, the great Californian who was US#1 in both the mile and 2-Mile when her season ended with a stress fracture 3 weeks ago.  "It would been great to have her in this."  Ale came out of the stands to congratulate Craig for her mile victory.

Craig also gave thanks to God, kneeling in prayer alone on the infield grass after her victory.  "The Lord is my strength and salvation.  It is awesome to have the opportunity to glorify Him with our talents."

It was the first meet of Craig's that was not attended by her parents, who were at Jackson Hole for a family reunion.  Here is an album to show them what they missed.

Approaching the starting line, which was an achievement in itself for Flanagan.  After an 8-hour flight delay almost caused her to miss Friday night's 2-Mile race, Flanagan lost her running bag right before the Mile.  She had to borrow a pair of spikes that were a size too big.
