Before a brilliant lightning storm stopped proceedings
late in the evening, there were fireworks on the track and field to
entertain the big crowd at Mike Myers Stadium in Austin. Some
highlights::
-
4A Boys 200: Texas has seven of the US
top 10 and five of them were in this race. Hometown soph Brendan
Christian, fastest US sophomore ever with his 20.72 in the
regional, was featured in pre-meet coverage in the Austin American
Statesman. But it was Dickinson's Leon Bookman on top
at the end of a blazing sprint in US#1 20.67 +0.5. Austin
Reagan's Christian 20.78 and third place San Angelo Lake View sr Saidric
Williams 20.91 made it three runners under 21 seconds.
-
4A Boys PV: The pole vault pit is less
than a pole's length from the backstretch stands, and Wolfforth
Friendship jr Sage Thames had the crowd roaring with jump after
jump without a miss -- all the way to US#1 17-6.5. This broke
his own Texas 4A record (16-7) by almost a foot.

University of Houston.
