harrowing seconds. As their anchor approached the finish on the way to
what appeared to be an all-time US time, she fell five meters from the
line, got to her feet, and crossed the line in the day's fourth fastest
time, still winning their heat. US#3 William Penn, PA, was disqualified.
US# 4 A. Philip Randolph, NYC, finished 9th with a
1:43.10. US#9 Simon Gratz, Philadelphia, PA, failed to qualify after
finishing 7th with a 1:42.61, missing a spot in the finals by .06.
