Emily Kroshus 4:46.79 catches Shalane Flanagan in last 5 meters; Sara Bei 3rd

Emily Kroshus, of Calgary Canada, won a very fast come-from-behind mile, catching Millrose-champ Shalane Flanagan in the final five meters, both crossing the line in under 4:47. Flanagan, who leaves for the world cross country championships Tuesday as part of the US team, set a PR by six seconds. She said that she came in not expecting to win because she's really in cross country shape. "But the pacing was perfect. I wanted to set it up with a fast 800 (going through in 2.22) so know one could sneak up. I didn't even hear her coming. She's so nice, so I don't mind losing to her. We're both going to world's, so I'll see her there." Flanagan said her goal was 4:54.
Kroshus, who broke the Simplot Games 3200 record by 22 seconds last month, is also going to the world cross country championships representing Canada.
