In midweek email, Mtn. Ridge
Coach Don Tate indicated his
top girls were ready to run.
Were they ever! Twins Nadya
and Nastia Bishton from
Arizona sizzled to go 1-2
(way ahead of all others)
in the featured race. Jesuit of
Portland (OR) won the team
battle, but rising Rancho Buena
Vista (five frosh!) was a
surprising second over Torrey
Pines in a great battle between
San Diego schools.

We are only presuming that
Carlmont asked to bypass the
seeded race because Coach
Jeff Gilkey's team certainly
belongs with the best. They
win by nearly 100 points over
Orange County squad Capis-
trano Valley and El Toro.
Bullard frosh Lyndsie Ether-
ton (18:26) comes on to beat
Carlmont's Justine Fedronic
(18:31) and Mary Rhoades
(18:34) for individual honors.
Six CIF sections are in Top 10.

Woodcreek of the SJS and
Cypress of the SS were the
top performers among those
seeking to move into the
state rankings. Woodcreek
had three non-seniors finish in
the Top 20 to emerge as a team
of the future! Cypress was
led by three sophomores and
a junior! Stephany Uriostegui
was an impressive 25-second
winner over Agoura's Erin Baird
and much-improved senior Shelby
Golan of St. Francis-Mtn. View!

So far, it figures to be a
three-team battle for the
state title. All three finally
came together here with
Orange Lutheran edging
Oak Park by two points
for the win while Corona
del Mar (missing two
varsity runners) was back
a ways in third. Nevada
gem Kelsey Smith won by
seven seconds over CdM's
Shelby Buckley, with  Aptos' Marissa Ferrante 3rd.

She spent the summertime
logging anywhere between
70-100 miles a week (!) and
still carries 70-80 mpw load as
Sarah Sumpter (Healdsburg)
motors to 45-second win.
Oaks Christian tops St. Mary's
in fine team showdown that
also has nice breakthrough by
Flintridge Sacred Heart

Girls Division V
Race Video  Results
Oh my what a team battle as St.
Mary's of Oregon comes in to
claim the win while College Prep
nicks Crystal Springs Uplands in
battle of NCS powers! Marin
Academy placed fourth, partly
thanks to Alesandra Roger as
the girl with the winning smile
also had her second straight
Stanford win. NCS very strong!

Riverbank's German Fernandez
forces the pace and wins going
away in 14:42, easily the fastest
time of the day, on his way to
being among all-time CA best!
Teamwise, favored Crater of OR
defeats pretty good field of CA
teams, with Rancho Buenva Vista
and Clovis East continuing fine
seasons. Most went true to form.

Boys Division I
Race Video  Results

Nip-and-tuck battles here as NCS
power Amador Valley steps us to
edge Grace Davis bu 4 for the win.
Carlmont of the CCS holds off
vastly improved El Toro (SS) for
third. Race-winner was Brett
Walters of Sultana, who beat
Brad Surh of Carlmont by 15
seconds. Sultana's Kyle Gallagher
was third in the non-seeded race.

Boys Division II
Race Video   Results

Galena of Nevada came back
across state lines to kick some
more California butt! First they
beat SJS power Woodcreek;
this time they handled NCS
power De La Salle. Up front,
it was Bryan Tibaduiza of
Galena that beat 10th-grade
star Philip MacQuitty of
hometown favorite Palo Alto
by 7 seconds for the race win.

There's not much to do in the tiny
town of Dublin except maybe run...
and that's exactly what James
Attarian did plenty of this past
summer. With his fitness sharp,
Attarian beat a very tough Nate
Beach (Acalanes) to win top
honors by 15 seconds. Oak Park
ran sensationally well at this level
|to handily spank Orange Lutheran
in sending a message statewide!

Boys Division IV
Race Video  Results

Fresh off its win in a very fun trip
to Hawaii last weekend, St. Mary's
of Berkeley showed no signs of
wear with a tough 6-point win over
Oaks Christian in an early forecast
for statewide podium positions.
Carmel looked good in 3rd! St.
Mary's senior Matt Duffy won
here for a 2nd straight year, posting
an 18-second win over Palma's
Tyre Johnson (CCS).

Boys Division V

Race Video  Results

Third-ranked College Prep didn't
have too much wiggle room as
6th-ranked Berean Christian and
7th-ranked Oakwood School both
finished within 26 points in a
fine three-team battle. Oakwood's
Aric Van Halen won after gaining
a big early lead, clocking 15:59,
an outstanding time at this level
as he stamped himself as the
favorite for year-end D5 honors.
