Western U.S. entries figure prominently in the entry lists for this year's Junior Nationals, with
past Team USA world championships meet qualifiers Kauren Tarver and Marie Lawrence joining
former FootLocker National champs AJ Acosta, Jordan Hasay & Aislinn Ryan as favorites for the
World Team, which competes next month in Kenya! All but Ryan hail from the FL West Region.

Van Cortlandt Park layout to lead a cast of three female preps qualifying
for last year's IAAF World Junior Cross-Country Championships in Japan.
Spots to worlds for preps on the male side were at a premium, however,
as Kentucky high schooler Michael Eaton was the lone boy to advance.

A.J. Acosta (U. of Oregon), Kenny Klotz (U. of Oregon) and Matt Tebo (New Mexico HS'er)
are among our picks to make the World Juniors Team for the United States this weekend!

OUR PREDICTED TOP TEN
1) Kenny Klotz (U.  of Oregon) - Tremendously fit and very determined, he's the man to beat when he's on. Was 19th
at NCAA West Regionals However, inconsistency has been his greatest challenge at times. Could win it... or not even make the team.
2) A.J. Acosta (U. of Oregon) - The smart money is on Acosta, whose considerable strength & stamina should be a
nice match for Flatirons. If healthy, only a poor race plan derails him from Worlds. That won't happen.
3) Matt Tebo (Eldorado HS, NM) - Second to Acosta at both Arcadia and Nike Outdoors last year, Tebo won
the FootLocker West Regional this school year as a senior, then placed 5th at nationals. Lives at altitude.
4) Jon Grey (U. of Oklahoma) - A late bloomer as a college frosh, Grey placed 44th at the NCAA Midweet Regional.
5) Dan Lewis (Villanova University) - A well-seasoned prep, Lewis placed 50th at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Reginoal.
6) Isaac Stoutenburgh (U. of Oregon) - Placed 35th for the Ducks at Pac-10s, has notable experience, but been inconsistent.
7) Brian Rhodes-Devey (Guilderland HS, NY) - A muddy strength course should suit Rhodes-Devey fine, and he's been pointing to this.
8) Josh Edmonds (Liberty College) - Placed 42nd as a frosh at the NCAA Southeast Regional.
9) Mikias Gelagle (Arizona State) - Placed 75th at NCAA West Regional but could surprise here.
10) Chris Vizcaino (Iona College) - Redshirted his frosh year; reportedly very fit with fine race recently.
Dangerous sleepers: Noel Bateman, Elliot Heath, Kevin Schwab, Alex Crabill, Ryan McNiff, Matthew Herzl, Jake Matthews.

For the boy,s 2005 FootLocker Nationals champion A.J. For the males, 30 of the 66 known  affiliations are colleges (45%), with four having undiscernable affiliations at this time.

The full list of boys/girls entries in the Juniors division can be accessed here.

Tour of the Course Challenge

Twelve-picture album of the course, taken last weekend by the Boulder Performance Training Group!

Course Map

The Flatirons Golf Course is a 2,000-meter curcuit, with runners touring the path multiple times
depending on their particular race and corresponding race distance. The flatness of the course
allows for it to be fast, but adverse weather does affect the footing, with any measureable precipitation
(including melting snow) making for a slower and more strength-geared challenge.

How Much Colder In Boulder?

Weather temperatures have been yo-yo-ing in recent days,
with the latest race weekend forecast calling for temperatures
in the low 40s, with occasional snowfall and rainfall. Intermittent
snow within the past week promises for muddy race conditions
once the expected thawing begins to take hold on the curse.
