ABC District Meet Varsity's Overview: The Girls Varsity saw Cerritos High dominate the field going 1st thru 6th. With the winning time usually in the low 21s for this meet, the Cerritos ladies are certainly looking better than average! The Boys Varsity race was the closest & fastest in it's twelve year history with Gahr edging out Cerritos 31-32. Winning times on this course early in the season usually range in the low 17s. However, Gahr senior Raman Singh shattered the district meet record by 29s, with the top 8 runners under last year's winning time.
Boys Freshmen Sophomore - The Gahr Gladiators were able to overcome three time defending champions, Cerritos, by running 1-2-4 in their 22-35 victory over Cerritos, which was their first since 1995 in this division . Raul Galvan (District Champion - 18:45 - Gahr) and Eric Wilson (18:49 - Gahr)separated themselves from freshman Ivan Juarez (19:04 - Cerritos) in order to seal the victory. Whitney finished with 80 points and Artesia DNS.
Girls Varsity - Cerritos sealed its tenth district championship in twelve years in perfect fashion as they finished in the first six spots, being represented by one individual from each grade level in their top four including Daniela Villegas (District Champion - 20:40 - Cerritos), Victoria Cerda (20:51 - Two-Time Defending District Champion - Cerritos), Stephanie Kuan (21:09 - Cerritos), and Christina Alarid (21:10 - Cerritos), in addition to Kimberly Cooper (21:40 - Cerritos) and Caroline Kim (21:54 - Cerritos). Gahr finished in second with 56, Whitney in third with 70 and Artesia in fourth with 120.
Boys Varsity - The Gahr Gladiators were able to defeat two time defending champion Cerritos in a thrilling 31-32 battle allowing Gahr to take its sixth district title in twelve years. Raman Singh (Gahr) smashed the previous course record of 16:51 with a 16:21. Eight runners finished under the winning time from 2005, including Jemerald Soon (16:55 - Cerritos), Evan Nagayama (16:59 - Cerritos) and Jose Gonzales who made a pass in order to take the victory. Whitney finished in third with 73 and Artesia finished in fourth with 91.
Boys Junior Varsity - Cerritos won its eight district title and fourth in a row 17-46-73 over Gahr and Artesia. Donald Welke set the JV record en route to the district championship with his 18:26, as he led Cerritos along with Garrett Nishibayashi (19:11), and Kenny Lee (19:16) to finish 1-2-3 for the Dons. Paul Cho was the first finisher for the Gladiators in 19:24 with Kyle Shimoda (19:43 - Cerritos) and Kevin Dang (19:57 - Cerritos) sealing the race for the Dons.
Girls Junior Varsity - Cerritos took its eleventh district title and third in a row with a perfect score of 15 for the second year in a row, as they took the first eight places and fourteen of the top fifteen places. Amy Chen, who would have finished eleventh in the varsity race, won the district title in 22:19, with fellow teammates Melody Chern (22:52), Jodi Matsumoto (22:53), Melissa Pliss (22:55), and Jessica Kim (22:55) all finishing under 23 for the 3.05 mile course. Gahr finished in second with 63, Whitney finished with 71, and Artesia finished with 107.
