The Rubidoux boys cross country team won the first Sunkist League meet of the 2006 cross country season. The Falcons out ran the rest of the league taking the victory with a score of 30 points. The Bloomington Bruins finished 2nd with a score of 44 followed by Jurupa Valley with 69 points.

In the Boys Varsity race, Rubidoux Senior Juan Ruiz took the lead after one mile, built a 50m lead and was never caught. He ran away to finish with a course record time of 15:31. Bloomington's Luis Carrette and Rubidoux's Edwin Ortiz made the race a little more dramatic with Ortiz trailing Carrette in third place for most of the hilly 2.8 mi. course before taking the second position the last half mile and finishing strong with a time of 15:48, the second fastest time ever on the 2 week old course. After Bloomington put their top two runners, Carrette and Victor Carillo, across the line Rubidoux's Juventino Roman used a solid kick to finish a strong race and cross the line in 6th place just ahead of Bloomington's James Duron. The Falcons #4-6 runners were not too far behind as Sophomore Steve Orta took 10th, Senior Abraham Perez was 11th and Junior Sergio Sandoval was 12th to give Rubidoux 6 runners in before Bloomington's 4th , Lloyd Artavia,to seal the victory. Jurupa Valley also managed placed 2 runners in the top 7 keeping Rubidoux and Bloomington on their toes.

In the JV race Rubidoux Freshman Justin Samaniego overtook Bloomington's top Daniel Mendez with less than a half mile to go and pulled out the victory with a time of 17:43 to Mendez's 17:46. Rubidoux's Aguilar (3rd place 17:52) and Bloomington's Quinones (4th place 17:52.1) were close behind but Bloomington took the 6th, 9th and 10th places to Rubidoux's 7th, 8th, 13th to earn the victory by only one point 31-32.

Falcons Open Season on the New “Dino” Course
Rubidoux Girls team and Katherine Gomez lead

Rubidoux opened their 2006 Sunkist League Cross Country Season on the challenging new 2.8 mile course at the Jurupa Mountains Cultural Center. Likened to a big Mt. SAC it tested the training of all the leagues runners in their Sunkist debut. Running among the Dinosaurs, by Mary's Mammoth and amid Cactus, the Falcons looked strong as ever defending their Sunkist League team & Individual titles from last year. Junior Katherine Gomez (19.09), 2005 Sunkist League Champion was challenged early by Norte Vista's Islas in the race however in the final stages Katherine was able to draw away with a powerful kick. Freshman Marsha Fernandez (20.46) ranked 7th in League made a huge move to #4 in her opening league race. Jessica Martinez (21.20) another talented freshmen unranked before the race turned in also a big race as she moved into the #7 position in League. Victoria Perdomo (21.21) yet another freshman maintained her top ten ranking with an 8th place finish. Junior Perla Guerrero (21.55) rounded out the top scoring five for the Falcons as Rubidoux won by 10 points and improved on their unbeaten streak in League. Pretty impressive for the first League race of the year especially since they didn't run their top Frosh who is the #2 runner on the team and probably the second best in League. Junior Ivet Ruiz (22.07) validated good weeks of training with an excellent race and may move up in the future. Soph Lucia Victorio (22.26) had an off day but with good workouts will climb back to the top. Rubidoux's girls Junior Varsity also had a great day as Wendy Fernandez (22.15) won by a large margin which also maintained the JV unbeaten streak in league; which stretches back to 2003. Moving up and looking improved was Junior Erika Ibarra (23.10) who is still learning the game and could be a factor late season. Running close to Erika was Rosemary Gaona (23.24), Josslyn Marquez (23.24) and Nancy Romero (23.41) who helped Rubidoux dominate the division by over 45 points. This Saturday the falcons travel to Hemet. They are the 2005 Hemet Invitational defending Champions.
