The Yellow and Green of Edison (Huntington Beach) was very prominent near the front the entire way, with the Southern Section beach power a fine 106-144 winner over Aptos and the field!

Boys Sweepstakes Event - Video of Top Finishers

AJ Acosta (El Camino, Oceanside) - Sweeps Winner - Interview
"Who leads the long tempo runs - AJ or Coach Tom Kloos?  AJ Tells-----"
--Mercado's out hard, with AJ Acosta long for the ride - check the above interview how the contest went out there on the 'back-side.' Wow, what a team field with a bunch of the nation's best. It was Royal with another steady run, their scorers prominent in the first fifth of the contest the entire way, who emerged the winners over the legendary Mead HS program of Spokane, Washington 86-107.  Royal averaged an impressive 15:58 in a crowded, dusty, warm event for another 'studly' group performance.

Girls Sweepstakes Event - Video of Top Finishers

Lauren Saylor (Buchanan, Clovis) Sweeps Winner - Interview
"Central Section star finds the warm Stanford afternoon to her liking!"
--Bells and fireworks ended the prep day. Jordan Hasay (Mission College Prep, San Luis Obispo) was out to monstrous early lead, blazing 5:01 first mile (we have never heard of anyone at the female prep level faster at that point in any race)! A pack of good runners sat back a ways, with Hasay 11:09 at two miles still in the lead. When the runners came in view near the finish Hasay was in trouble, and we assume it was her mother who stepped out on the course with 50 meters to go and grabbed Jordan, escorting her off the course before the finish. Lauren Saylor (Buchanan) raced along to the individual win at 17:38.  Two monster, nationally ranked groups, Buchanan (82) and Corona del Mar (83) waged a titanic struggle, with the upstart Central Section crew, three frosh scorers in the top five, who came out barely on top!! End of a super day with a super event!!!
