Cabrillo High School, the toughest medium-schools program
in the state, comes out charging at its county championships!

Hosted by Lompoc High, today’s Santa Barbara County championships at River Park (a flat and somewhat fast 3 mile course) saw two individual course records, a new team champion and the continuation of a team win streak.

In the girls race, San Marcos High of Santa Barbara captured the championship for the first time behind an outstanding race from Jenna Ridgway. Ridway’s fine 17:22 course record broke the 17:35 record set by Sharon Plante of Arroyo Grande in 1985. Chasing the Royals were Cabrillo of Lompoc, Dos Pueblos and Lompoc.

On the boys side, Cabrillo continued their recent dominance of Santa Barbara County with their fourth consecutive team championship. Leading the way for the Conquistadores was Michael Coe with a truly outstanding record breaking run. Coe’s 14:27 broke the one year old record of 14:54 set last year by Carpinteria’s Joaquin Gomez. Coe was followed by teammates Colin Hacker and Miguel Ortiz in 2nd and 3rd. Santa Barbara area schools Dos Pueblos and San Marcos finished in 2nd and 3rd in the team race.

New county champion Jenna Ridgway has San Marcos going the right way!
