"The Road To State!"

Ivy League Finals
Thursday, November 3, 2005 @ Canyon Springs HS - 'B' course (SS) 3 miles
King rules the league!

The boys varsity race got out quickly, with the talented Knight twins of La Sierra skirting off into the lead with Canyon Springs' Jose Blanco in tow. Blanco would separate the duo just past the mile, but as the trio closed in at two miless, the Knights had moved away to a comfortable and growing 20 meters advantage. Jeff Pelarde of Poly settled into fourth early on and held that position throughout, with King's pack of seven grouping nicely early on and then sticking together to a 35 second spread (1-7) at the finish line. La Sierra's 4th and fifth runners were well back, finishing 16th and 20th respectively, but it was still enough to bring the team the runners-up honors. King wins league title, undefeated.

After a narrow, one point win for King in last week's dual with Canyon Springs, today's race was anyone's guess as to who the victor would be. Canyon Springs boasted home course advantage and the inclusion of Tiffany Rojas who missed the dual with injury. The Cougars got things going early, with a tight pack of four just off the lead in the opening 1000 meters. Carissa Bowman of King and Canyon's Courtney DiNiccola locked horns through two miles, racing almost side-by-side through the scenic, tree-lined lanes. With 1500 to go, Bowman opened up a gap and pulled away to win in 18:33. King's depth proved again to be the difference in this contest, as the Wolves were able to put five in the top 12 and four in the top 7. King repeats as Ivy league champions.
