Sunkist League Meet

Southern Section

Wednesday, November 2nd, 2005

Ramona HS (Riverside) - 3 miles ?
from Rubidoux HS

The Sunkist League finals this year was hosted by Ramona High School. The girls varsity race was a most interesting affair as Rubidoux's #2 Gonzalez was unable to run, #3 Victorio returning off sickness was sub par & #4 Johnson was nursing a sore hip however the Falcons were still able to put five under 21 and win their first League title since 2000. Katherine Gomez easily won the individual title running 18.54; second all time on the course for a Soph to Rubidoux's Trisha Tressler (18.19), 1994. The surprise was the surging Bloomington Bruins under coach Chan which took second place, who had previously placed fourth. Norte Vista claimed third lead by Kristen Lin (19.07) and America Islas (19.29). In the previous two meets Ramona had been the second place team however ravaged by sickness and injuries were not able to perform in finals and had to give way to Bloomington and Novi. This Finish lead to a three way tie for 2nd, 3rd, & 4th place in league between Bloomington, Norte Vista & Ramona. By virtue of their final finish; Bloomington and Norte Vista were awarded 2nd and 3rd places. Bloomington who had placed fourth at both previous meets ended up the League's second place team and a trip to C.I.F.

The Bloomington Bruins however challenged and made the race interesting as they put three in the top ten however this was no enough to offset the Falcon 1-3-4-5-12 finish. Ramona placed third which had been the finish in the last two meets.
