Big Bear boys & Yucca Valley girls begin Road to State! On a sunny afternoon in Riverside, the DeAnza League held if finals at Riverside Community College in Moreno Valley. The 5K course is run over very hilly terrain and rarely gives up fast times. Weather conditions were good & the athletes were ready to decide the league titles. When the dust settled, Big Bear & Yucca Valley solidified their spots as #1. The girls varsity race came down to an individual battle of wills. Defending Champion, Emily Snyder (YV), was at the top of her game & held off a hard charging, Julia Cline (BB), to take the title once again. Emily cut 55 sec from her time of 2 weeks ago to run 20:30. Julia was also 55 sec faster, clocking the 5K course in 20:38. Yucca Valley, ranked 7th in D3, put 6 runners in the top 11 to seal the victory with 28 points. Big Bear ranked 7th in D4, placed 3 in the top 5 for a second place finish. The 8th ranked D4 29 Palms Wildcats captured the the 3rd place for the final spot in CIF. The varsity boys saw more of the same, which was the back of Chall Hall's jersey. The oustanding sophomore runner, cruised to an easy win, clocking the distance in 17:01, successfully defending his league title. He led his team to title by 12 points over Yucca Valley. Big Bear placed all 5 of their scorers in the top 12, with Yucca only mustering 4 in the top 15. Beaumont finished 3rd in the race, led by David Sanchez, who placed 2nd overall in a time of 17:23. Marcus Buckles of 29 Palms & Reyneir Chavez of San Jacinto qualified to CIF as Individuals. The J.V. races saw Yucca Valley win on both
sides. Eric Hanson led the Trojans as the 1st place finisher overall in
20:17. Candace Salas,(23:11), repeated as the JV Girls champion, leading
