LOCAL RUNNING PHENOM JORDAN HASAY WINS NATIONAL XC TITLE

Jordan Hasay, the 13-year old running phenom from Arroyo Grande, won the 2004 USA Track and Field Junior Olympic cross-country national championship yesterday in Shaumberg, Illinois.

Jordan, running in the youth division (13-14), raced against over 300 girls from across the country winning the 4K course with a time of 14.17. She was 24 seconds ahead of the second place finisher shattering the previous course record of 14:48 set last year.

It’s been quite an eventful year for the running star who is in the eighth grade at St. Patrick’s school in AG. This summer she won two gold medals in the USA Track and Field Junior Olympics in Eugene, Oregon.

Her times of 4:34.54 in the 1500M and 9:48.77 in the 3000M were national records for youth girls.

Jordan also holds the 5K national record for a 12 year old with a time of 17:05. She also holds the national 5K record for a 13 year old with a time of 16:49.

States her coach Jim Barodte of the San Luis Distance Club - “Jordan has proven she is one of the top runners in the nation in any age group. She has a very bright future ahead of her.”

Remarkably, she has won every race she has participated in this year including being the first woman finisher in nine 5K meets she has raced in this past year. She has also set new cross country course records in every meet she has ran this year.
