Oakland Athletic League
Oakland High wins 25th in a row!
Wednesday, October 29, 2003

Thomas Dileo and Albert Chan set a blistering pace to lead the Oakland Wildcats to their 25th consecutive Oakland Athletic League cross country dual meet win on Wednesday, a 22-35 defeat of Skyline.
Dileo crossed the finish line of the three-mile Joaquin Miller Park course with a time of 19 minutes, 1 second, with Chan finishing eight seconds later. Skyline's Aaron Shiber-Knowles came in third at 19:45, but Luis Vasquez sewed up the Oakland win by taking fourth place in 20:00. The top four finishers all set personal records for the course on Wednesday.
"We ran a good race, but Oakland just ran a great race," said Skyline coach Chris Williams. "They're awesome, and they showed why they're the defending champs, and why they've won so many in a row."
The Titans got their revenge on the girls' side, however, as Diana Choi pulled away from Oakland's Lauren Lok on the final lap to finish in 23:14 and lead Skyline to a 21-37 win. Lok couldn't keep up after staying with Choi for three laps, finishing more than a minute behind the winner despite a strong start and a personal course record.
Skyline's Colby Haarz passed teammate Paula Bernabe on the last lap to finish third (25:43), while Gabrielle Harmon gave her team's score a boost by finishing eighth. Harmon was the sixth Titan to cross the finish line, displacing Oakland's final scoring chances.
"My girls are pretty good, and we have a lot of depth. That really helps out the team score when we can displace some runners," Williams said.
