At Rancho Cotate, Dawit Tesfailassie ran a scintillating 13:58 to equal the 2.75 mile course record set in 1999 by Steve Laurie of Maria Carrillo. The Piner junior, who recorded a 4:22 mile in track as a sophmore, was almost two minutes faster than his nearest competitor. Phyliss Blanchard also had an outstanding race, running 15:23 to break her own school record set earlier this year."She keeps improving, every year she has gotten better," said Rancho Cotate coach John Anderson.
Rancho Cotate freshman Shannon Rich finished second in 17:38.

At Kelseyville

SRC's Jackson and Hirshfield Shine Once Again!

Santa Rosa Christian's Jeff Jackson and Leslie Hirshfield continued their winning ways at Kelseyville as they were victorious on the 3.1 mile course. Jackson's win was a two second spread over Alejandro Serrano of Kelseyville (18:06 to 18:08), while Hirshfield's margin was over a minute faster (21:30 to 22:38) than Kelseyville's Jennifer Keithly. In team competition,
Lower Lake Boys demonstrated why they may be the team to beat as they placed five in the top ten. The Trojans' lead runner was third place finisher Mike Perez. As for the Girls, Kelseyville runners notched four of the top six spots, while Lower Lake had four in the top ten. The top Trojan runner was veteran Michelle McMullen in the third position.
