Sunkist League Finals - Bloomington HS - 11/06/02 - SS - from Brad Peters results and photos!!
ML King's first three on Championship Girls team Rubidoux Boys fly along as a pack!! The Sunkist League Finals (SS) was held at Bloomington High School’s home course, which consisted of thick grass, soft sandy hills and a short stretch of concrete. The times across the board ran slowly, despite some strong efforts from many of the top runners. Rubidoux’s highly ranked boys team took an early lead and never relinquished it, despite having moved several varsity runners down to the JV level for the day. A pack of Antonio Jimenez, Jose Maganda, Victor Ortiz and 9th grader Rudy Palacios, broke away at the mile and never looked back to lead the Falcons to an 18 point victory. Riverside King was a strong second ahead of Norte Vista, 37-65 to finish out the CIF qualifying teams. The girls’ race was dominated by King, who put six runners in the top ten, led by 11th graders Kristin McHugh and Megan Fairley. Christina Olivas, Bloomington’s strong front runner took over the pacing efforts after a somewhat leisurely first mile and ran uncontested over the last two miles to win her first league title easily. Her team qualified for CIF for the first time in school history. Boys Varsity: Rubidoux 18, King 37, Norte Vista 65, Ramona 115, Kaiser 135 Girls Varsity: King 26, Norte Vista 51, Bloomington 63, Rubidoux 122, Ramona 132, Kaiser 151 Boys Varsity Antonio Jimenez, Rub, 16:14 Christina Olivas, BL, 19:51
