Tim Hearst of Royal won his showdown with Ryan Ketcham of Thousand Oaks to lead the Highlanders to victory on their home course at Challenger Park. Hearst, the two-time defending league champion, clocked 15:44 with Ketcham at 16:10. "I surged coming up to the mile mark," Hearst said. "That was my plan before the race and that's what I did." Royal had five of the top seven finishers. In addition to Hearst, Dylan Jaedtke placed third in 16:20, Jason Pederson finished fourth in 16:39, Bryan Rodie placed sixth in 16:46 and Ken Reichl finished seventh in 16:48 for Royal.

Whitney McDonald of Thousand Oaks remained undefeated with her sixth victory of the season in the meet at Challenger Park. McDonald clocked 18:39 over the three-mile course to defeat second-place Sarah Montez of Royal by 21 seconds. Alyson (CQ) Fletcher of Thousand Oaks was third in 19:23 with Monica Su fourth in 19:23 and Lynne Fletcher, Alyson's sister, fifth in 19:30 for the Lancers. Kathleen Vance, Thousand Oaks' top finisher in the state championships last year, missed her third consecutive meet because of soreness in her back.
