Los Padres Mid-Season
Cluster Meet River Park, Lompoc 3.0 Miles - 10/16/02

Today the Los Padres League ran their Mid-Season Cluster meet. The boys
race pitted crosstown rivals Cabrillo (Ranked 4th in SS D-3) and Lompoc
(Ranked 8th in SS D-3), plus SS D-4 powers Morro Bay and St. Joseph, along
with a tough Santa Maria team and also Santa Ynez and brand new Nipomo
High
Schools. Run on the 3.0 mile course at River Park in Lompoc under cloudy
skys
and cool conditions the racing was hot. As was expected Duane Solomon,
Cabrillo led the way with a blazing 15:11 (course record is 14:49 by Ronnie
Buchanan, Righetti-1997 and Henry Hagenbuch, Cate-2001). He was followed
by
the 15:33 of Jordan Gaffney, Morro Bay and 15:35 Eduardo Ramos, Lompoc.
The
team battle came down to Lompoc having a bit more depth on this day as
the
Braves were able to pull out a hard fought 27-32 win over the Conquistadors.
In the girls race, it was Lompoc and Cabrillo again looking at each
other
to see who was stronger on this day. Again it was the Braves pulling out
a
nice 26-30 win over the Conqs. Individually Megan Snell from Nipomo was
the
winner in 19:16. Lompoc was led by Audrey Barrett's 19:18 and Cabrillo
had a
solid run turned in by Tarah Balden in 19:20
