Sunkist League Meet #2 - Rubidoux HS (Riversdie) - 10/15 02 Christina Olivas (Bloomington) in blue and Megan Fairley of King (off her shoulder) - Olivas set a CR!! In the second meeting of the Sunkist League, Rubidoux’s boys reasserted their dominance of the league. Heading out on a double loop that includes a tough 100 meter climb, the front six Falcons strung themselves out to a commanding lead, followed by a pack of King’s top four and Norte Vista’s top-two. But the quick lead never evaporated for Rubidoux, running on their home course, and they held through to the end, finishing in the top six places. King finished second overall and Norte Vista third. The girls’ contest wasn’t quite as dominating, but King still managed to win by 22 points over Norte Vista and Bloomington. The story of the race however was Christina Olivas, a surging sophomore out of Bloomington. Taking the lead at 800 meters, she never looked back and powered through the three-mile course in a course record time of 18:39, breaking the old mark set in 1992. Megan Fairley of King was second in 19:31.
