33rd Annual Yucaipa Invitational - Yucaipa HS - 3.0 mile course that runs very similar timewise to old Mt. SAC coures - 15-30 seconds slower than new Mt. SAC course - Sat 10/5/02 Winner Diane Rosete (Estancia) moves on to the track near the finish of her 19:13 effort Diane Rosete (say it roo-set-ah). Anyway, strong this season, Diane Rosete of Estancia, a veteran of this course, wove her way up through the pack to a dominating victory here Div III. She cheered her teammates in, drank some water, as it was pretty darn hot by this time of day (not the blast furnace type, but probably high 80's, low 90's that had to affect running Div III compared to Div I especially, and somewhat slower than Div II due to conditions) and then had time to talk. Diane is familiar with the heat here, explaining, "It was really dry out there. I was here last year and was even hotter! I was comfortable with the course and think it is a good one. Where we train we have had some hot weather, and some cooler lately, so I was ready for the heat. My soph year I used to go out too quick, but learned a lot from our team's leader Liz Huipe, who would gradually move up through the pack to the front. I try to use that strategy, and took the lead here at two miles. Last year I was 6th in the Southern Section and 21st in State. This year I would like to finish in the top fifteen or better at state." Claytonia Tarazi (Desert Christian, Lancaster) had the lead through the 800m point Bloomington's Christina Olivas moves to the lead up the first hill, with Diane Rosete (pink shorts) back a bit at this point Christina Olivas (Bloomington) near finish - she was 2nd at 19:25 Rebecca Juarez (Jurupa Valley) was 4th at 20:04 Kristina Tudor (Apple Valley) 5th 20:40 and Chaparral runner 6th 20:42 towards the finish Girls Div III
