Yucaipa Invitational - Girls Division II - 10/05/02 - Results, Interview, Pictures

33rd Annual Yucaipa Invitational - Yucaipa HS - 3.0 mile course that runs very similar timewise to old Mt. SAC coures - 15-30 seconds slower than new Mt. SAC course - Sat 10/5/02

Mission Viejo poses after the race - skinned knees and all (check the right - ouch!)

Mission Viejo has been one of the surprises of the year, with a hard-working and pleasant group giving highly Dana Hills a super-scare a week back with a 27-28 loss to DH on the Dolphins' course. The League Finals will be run in a month at a park where Mission Viejo runs at often, so it should be worth looking for! Their 21 point win here was very dominating!!!

We caught up with race winner Nicole Scheid of Mission Viejo, and she became the appointed team spokesperson. Asked about her personal strategy, "I stayed back a bit through the mile. I noticed that as I was moving up I was coming closer and closer to the lead. I did not take the lead until we came into the parking lot near the end of the course." Asked about the heat, she replied, "The heat already today made me a bit tired before the start, but as the race went along I was into things, with my teammates around really helping." Asked about the Dana Hills dual meet, "It was very exciting, and we are looking forward to the League Finals at Laguna Niguel Regional Park against them."
